What, if anything, do you do with this

Rebound

Recommended Posts

I'm bidding something, and I wish I were a passed hand here. 2N looks good at MPs, especially since I can run to 3 if it gets hit.

Pass is very reasonable, and I would pass if I was in Heat 3. This is exactly the kind of pushy hand that comes up a lot in Heat 3 that inevitably ends up -300.

Pass

No bid seems to be an accurate portrayal of my hand. That stiff A is not as good as it sounds, unless partner has internally solid cards in the suit. Unless he has that, and delivers a card, to give me a second stopper, 3N is a long way off, and he will bid 3N on many, many hands that have no play.

3 is forcing, but where does it rate to get us? Obviously, it will work well if we catch him with xxx KQJxxx x AKx, which is entirely possible and I will have missed slam. Otherwise he is going to be endplayed in the bidding, or will be making a bid that endplays me. He bids 3? He bids 3?

My own methods allow me to bid 2 to show s, with unlimited values, but at a minimum a sound 'weak 2' type of holding. He can express varying degrees of delight over that... but, even now, I am not sure that this is better.

What tips the scale for me, and it is close between bidding and passing is:

1) I don't know whether 3 or 2N is better: if we play notrump and they run s (or s) I am going to be unhappy: if I bid 3, the bidding endplays may ensue

2) the opps are not through bidding yet. I concede that my hand suggests that opener may well hold length, and so will pass... but certainly stranger things have happened than the opps reopening and getting into trouble.

3) it is mps. This makes me feel a little better about any game I may miss: and I am enough of a realist to know that missing game may be the least of my worries.

4) I would have to turn in my certificate of chickenhood were I to bid now....
