gwnn
[hv=d=s&v=e&s=sqj98xhxdkq98xxcx]133|100|Scoring: BAMwe are south[/hv] We play 10-14 openers but opening requires 2 controls (if you really really want to open it 1S notwithstanding, please specify). 2D is natural, 6+, no other 4 carded suit. 2S and 3D are wide-ranging etc.
inquiry
This hand has to start with either PASS, or 1!D (or 1!S). For Zar counters, this has enough to open, for rule of 18 people this is an opener. I believe I will pass and re-enter the auction with this one, or else, I would open 1!D not 1!s. glen
2D is natural, 6+, no other 4 carded suit. 2S and 3D are wide-ranging etc. 2♦, since I have no other 4 card suit - just lucky the other suit has 5 cards.

Finch
pass. Second choice 1D.
neilkaz
Your system basically compels you to pass, but if I open I slightly prefer 1♠ to 1♦. At least when you pass, you have ♠ and may not have to back in later at too high a level.
mikeh
Pass. 1♠ is HORRIBLE 1♦ is slightly less horrible, but still very misleading to partner. You can almost always find a call later on, if you pass now. You can never get back out of the mess you may create if you open now.
Al_U_Card
For what you may miss, backing in is way easier and better than backing out (and usually less costly). I might consider opening 2♠ (weak) but then I would take my meds..... :)
Walddk
I am known to be a very aggressive opener, but there comes a day .... It has come now. Pass! Reverse the lengths in the two suits and I may consider 1♠. Never a weak two of some sorts. Roland
SoTired
Pass - even tho I hate "backing in" to auctions. I would never open 8 HCP with a 1 bid. A weak 2 in either suit lies about the trick taking potential of the hand. 3D with an unpassed partner is too disgusting to even mention. This reminds me of the pilot's rule: "Takeoffs are optional; landings are mandatory."
P_Marlowe
Pass, wait and see. Given the vulnerability, you always have the chance to enter later, even if the auction comesback at the 3 level. With kind regardsMarlowe
pclayton
Wow; an aceless 8 with a potential rebid problem. Me loves to preempt with 2 suiters, but the spades are just too good. Oh, I can describe this hand EASIER if I back in later? Then I will pass. If it goes pass - pass - pass, hopefully our teammates aren't writing -420 on their private :P
hatchett
Pass, no defence and a good chance we can describe our hand on the next round.
cherdano
We play 10-14 openers but opening requires 2 controls (if you really really want to open it 1S notwithstanding, please specify). 2D is natural, 6+, no other 4 carded suit. 2S and 3D are wide-ranging etc. If I have agreed all that, then I will certainly stay disciplined and will automatically pass here. (Otherwise, I would still pass.)
Al_U_Card
Okay, we are in 1st seat, so 2 opps to preempt and only 1 pard to explain to..... For me the 1 bid needs way more defense so it is not a consideration. Opening a weak 2 D and missing all 3 and 4 card ♠ suits with p......wtf? The more I think about it, the more 2♠ has appeal. (so do bananas, which you can slip on or go ...... :P
whereagles
Pass and bid 2NT/cue later seems a better description than opening it.
