ohioply
[hv=d=w&v=e&s=sxhqjxxdxcakj109xx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] This is your hand in 4th seat non vul vs vulbidding went 1D - pass - 1S Do you double, pass, or preempt in clubs? pclayton
I kibbed this hand from yesterday evening. The heart suit wasn't ♥QJxx, it was ♥JTxx. I'd probably bid 4♣, but 3♣ is reasonable. Double is a little eccentric.
mikeh
2♣. No strong urge to preempt: partner could still have a good hand... and this 4=7 (as most 4=7's) is a one-suiter, not a two-suiter, unless partner can introduce ♥s himself later (I can back in with 4N if the opps bounce to 4♠ and I want to take another call). ohioply
Yes I think you're right couldnt remember exact hearts...I doubled too ops bid 1nt - pass - 3nt and partner got lucky with a club lead - should I have bid 4c over their 3nt? cherdano
My order of preference: 3♣, 2♣, 4♣. If I'd psych, I would rather bid 1N than double. B) (Unless partner has 5 hearts, I would rather play clubs than hearts. Especially with this hand in dummy it will be obvious for opponents to force me, and then I won't get more than 2 club tricks if they don't run or hearts are 4-1.) Guest Jlall
My order of preference: 3♣, 2♣, 4♣. If I'd psych, I would rather bid 1N than double. B) ?! 3C is FAR more of a psyche than double. Is 3C a strong bid now? I know I'd bid 3C with x xxx xxx KQJxxx pretty routinely, this hand is what 4 tricks stronger than that and has playability in hearts... Mark me down for 2C. neilkaz
3♣ but I wouldn't criticize 4♣, but somewhere in the back of my mind is concern that we are possibly missing something in ♥, but with my holding JTxx and opener unable to bid over 1♦ we may not be missing anything meaningful in ♥ too often. .. neilkaz .. keylime
2♣. I think 3♣ is overbid especially when pard might have some heart values.
awm
Looks like another candidate for the "preempts with good hands" thread? B) I like 2♣ myself, although if the hearts were JTxx I would be more tempted to bid 3♣.

I was assuming the actual hand at the table, i.e. x JTxx x AKJT9xx.

B) I like 2♣ myself, although if the hearts were JTxx I would be more tempted to bid 3♣. If partner wasn't a passed hand, I'd make a 'normal' 2♣ overcall. We have the lower ranking suits (if you know me, I have an alternate name for the 'lower ranking suits' B) :) ) so I'd like to push the bidding some. For some reason, 2♣ didn't occur to me, but it should have because its eminently reasonable. I still like 3♣ more though, but I would put 2♣ in front of 4♣. pbleighton
4C. We are favorable, game seems unlikely, put the pressure on. Peter
whereagles
I'm going to bid 4♣ because I don't think 3♣ will bother opps much and I fail to see what 2♣ hopes to accomplish when opps have 18+ hcp.
Codo
2 ♣ for the given reasons.1 NT to show 4 Heart and 5+ Clubs is a mile away and anything else is from another planet.
P_Marlowe
Hi, 3C. I want to try to buy the contract,... but it is unclear, which sidehas the majority, so 3C. This will test their agreemnts at a reasonable safety level. And the contract may make, if theylet me play the contract. With kind regardsMarlowe
Free
1NT showing ♥ and ♣, with longer/better ♣. I'll come in again if possible (or if necessary). If I can't show both my suits, I'll start with a simple 2♣.
