Finch
OK, I'm a BBO virgin but I'm playing with 3 friends later this week, as one of them is feeling out of practice but babysitting problems mean all 4 of us can't be in the same place at the same time. I know their real names. We're all sad normal people and would include our real name in the relevant field when registering. How can we find each other online without a separate email/phone discussion to discover each other's user names? I don't think we are all even registered yet, so may be creating user names the day we first log on. In fact, even if I know their BBO names, how do I find them without scrolling through the very long list of logged on people?
inquiry
No way to search by member real name... Right click on your bbo username, go to the friends list, enter their bbo nicknames *you will have to find out their names* manually and press ADD each time. When they log on, their names will be just below mine somewhere on your first screen (hehehe, we yellows get top billing.. you can choose to not show us if you like)... That is, your name is first on the list of names, yellows come next (in alphabetical order), followed by your friends (in a different color), followed by the masses of "neutrals". I choose to display friends and stars... Thus i tend NOT to mark stars as friends as I get a full list of them anyway... I also don't mark fellow yellows as friends, they are on the top anyway... and if 5.0.3 they lose their yellow color and having a purple in amongst the pretty yellows is, well, jarring. cherdano
You need to know their BBO names. Then go to the options menu, and there is a tab where you can add people as friends by entering their BBO id.Of course it is enough if one of you does this. You could also just start a table in main bridge club, and reserve the seats for your friends (enter their names in the correct field in the lower right of the "Create new table" dialog box), they should then easily find your table after going to the MBC. hrothgar
Hi Frances First of all, make sure that you have the latest/greatest version of BBO installed. (BBO introduced a LOT of changes to the UI this morning) Second: If you know someone's user name, its very easy to track them down. When you look at BBO there is a window in the upper right corner that displays a list of players currently logged in. At the base of this window you'll see a Black button with yellow letters that says "Options". If you click on options, you'll get a list of different commands, one of which is "Find Person" Third: Unfortunately, as I understand matters "Find Person" only works with the User ID. BBO lets you enter information like you're real name and email address, however, I don't think that this is linked into the search system. (I just tried to search for the "real" name of a couple people who are logged with no luck)
hotShot
If you know the BBO ID: In the classic view of BBO, if you enter the chat-room area there is a find friends button where you can enter the ID. The better way is to enter the personal profile select the friends option/tab.There you can enter the ID if friends directly. It is useful to know the BBO ID's because you need them to reserve a table, cause you might have problems taking your seats at the table otherwise. inquiry
I might add.. the easiest way is when of them happens to "speak" to you, right click on their name in the chat area and choose the option "add as friend", that works too.. in fact, should you find their name in the long list of neutral people (or them playing at a table or kibitzing), you can right click on their name and add them to your friend list as well. Finch
Thanks for all the tips. It all seemed to work OK. The really bizarre part was why 20-odd people had nothing better to do than watch us discuss system! My only learning point was that even though I reserved seats for everyone at my table, I still should have ticked the "need permission to join the table" box (or made us invisible) as when someone got disconnected their place was immediately filled by someone else whom I then had to boot. Ah, but you can learn much by listening to intelligent people discussing system. You discover answers to ones old questions, and even solutions you didnt realised were possible... :)The difficulty is a) find the moment  find the right people to listen at...By the way, may we ask what is your BBO-nick, FrancesHinden?(FrancesHinden is too long). .............. It is because of the automatic "help to find an unocuppied seat". Yes, sometimes it is almost necessary to use the permission-gadget.
