Another opinion from me

Fred has to do what he can to make ACBL tourneys work, I actually do not bellieve he should have to justify his position on that, if he bans kibbing so be it, people cheat and all the ACBL and BBO can do is monitor and try and manage a very difficult situation, I dislike some of the armchair critics comments (not the individuals)

 

If you dont like conditions fo the tourneys do not play in them, some people want master points, I never see anyone here defending someones right to win a few masterpoints to make them feel better, I bet the are huge amounts of people that like winning points and never hope to aspire to the dizzy heights some of you have attained and may be one day EBU points will mean something to me, currently they dont as I do not really play live bridge.

 

Example in point my mother plays bridge and has done for years, she loves reaching the next level and it has taken her 15 years to become some kind of master, she admits that she will never be an expert, she plays simple bridge with few conventions, but what she does, is enjoy the time away from home, the company, some of the partners she has played with over the years and thinks it keeps her brain ticking over nicely, in other words she enjoys bridge as a hobby and she is hooked on EBU points, yes this costs her money to enter competitions and yes it costs her money to go to a bridge club and play, so she is prostituting herself for points and status, maybe she is but she enjoys it.

 

Bridge is just a game, if you really get your way some of you, I actually think that it would be to the detriment of BBO

 

Not kibbing ACBL tourneys is no hardship, really, there are plenty of other opportunities and if you just want to see how your friend did in the ACBL tourney you can do on myhands and even download them to a table and discuss them with thme if you like

 

I would be interested to see how many people in BBO have actually complained about no access to ACBL kibbing

Amusingly, I have a couple friends who don't care much about masterpoints but really enjoy kibitzing me (and other people they know) on bridgebase. They were annoyed by the decision to ban kibitzing in the ACBL games, but they realized that the ban was only on kibitzers with less than a certain number of BBO points. So their reaction was to go out and play in a bunch of ACBL tourneys so they could get their "3" or whatever and be allowed to kibitz once again.

 

So indirectly, banning kibitzers made a few extra bucks for the ACBL. :)

Please give my regards to your mother Wayne. My mother enjoyed her hobby exactly the same way 40 years ago. Many I talk with on BBO do the same and I am sure that is a widespread view on bridge. It is a sound way for bridge.

 

What really is the problem about kibitzing and what is so attracting is not clear to me. Fred is a strong advocater for kibitzing and therefore I think it is difficult to understand why such is allowed and promoted in general but banned in those events he cares most about. I doubt there is a real problem - if there was we ought to have had hundreds of new angry posters in this Forum. - As we have not I think it is no problem at all. I read your post Wayne as we are of the same opinion here.
