Hi everyone else playing this hand the bidding went 1 heart 1nt then 3 hearts but for me I only got 2 hearts from GIB, is this because I have setting set at the fastest speed and I should move it up a bit?

GIB runs simulations to see what bid works best. If you put it at the fastest speed it runs very few simulations so it will sometimes be off. I cannot recommend the fast setting at all!

16+ HCP and a good ♥ suit and no other 4 card suit.

This is not what the North hand holds, so 2♥ just happens to be the maximum for this bid.

Without a fit you should not add distributional points for the single ♣.

imagine South has ♣KJ instead of the ace, the HCP would be lost. This would be consistent with the bidding. The single ♥J of south is very important, but the chances to find this card with south is only 1/7. ♣ break 3-3 that is good, but a little more often they break 4-2.

So 2♥ is in general better than 3♥ with north holding. In the actual hand you gave there are a few lucky extras.

♥J => 14%, ♣ 3-3 (24%) not 4-2 (35)% => 40%, ♣A instead of wasted values

So in about 99% of the times you won't find these extras.

I'd pass 2♥. Not going to propose playing in that moth-eaten suit at the 3 lev. Incidently, I'd bid 3♥ instead of 2, but that's another story.

Agree! The options are Pass, 3♥, 3NT or 4♣ but never 3♣.

 

6-1 distribution always acceptable for partscore.

This is a 3H bid but its fairly close. If you took away 1 point anywhere I would bid 2H so I don't think gibs action was totally unreasonable.

I think that this hand is not perfect for any of the three bids (wish I was playing ritong 2♣ here).

 

With extra values, I am not fond of rebidding 2♥ even with six, usually prefer bidding my 3 card minor.

 

With such a good heart suit, I don't want to risk playing in a 3-4 diamond fit when I have a one loser six card major.

 

A jump to 3♥ is just about right, but this is a minimum for such a bid.

 

Given the choice between 2♦, 2♥, and 3♥, I think 3♥ is (barely) the optiomal bid. One advantage of 3♥ it gets you to a makable 3NT.

IMO this is the wrong suit to bid 3♣ with. KQJTxx and 3♣ is perfect, but the actual hand is a great dummy for hearts and a bad declaring hand for clubs, if part has a misfit (or even a doubleton club).

North has a minimum 3H bid. Wayne this is a very poor 3C bid. Your partner has shown 6H and your Cs are not that wonderful. Why pull 2H to 3C?
