lenze
The one convention I want ALL my partners to play is TMWYG (Tell Me What You Got)
Gerben47
Favorite Conventions: StaymanLebensohl (in many situations)Splinter Bids (in many situations)Ekren 2H (opening bid of 2H shows 4-4 in majors weak)Serious 3M+1 (so 3S over hearts and 3NT over spades) Treatments:Weak jump shiftFit showing jumpWeak notrumpNot-for-penalty doubles (in all of its zillion variations) Conventions to definitely live without:Cappelletti (1. Because of the penalty double, 2. Because of 2D showing majors instead of 2C or 2H)GerberFlannery And some treatments I would not want to teach beginners even if the local standard system says so:Strong jump shiftsAcol Two Bids

cherdano
As several posters mentioned it: what is the Meckwell structure over opponents 1NT?
Poky
Poky (or anyone else) -What are100% forcing 2C rebidTurbo 4NT CUE 2C rebid 2C rebid is artificial and round forcing. I play it this way:1S - 1NT2C:a) Natural, [11-15] with clubsB) [15-18] BAL, 5S(332)c) Any [16+] hand unsuitable for a clear reverse (5431 shapes etc.) So, 1S-1NT-3m becomes a clear 5-5 GF reverse and bidding is then much easier. Turbo 4NT After estabilishing a fit and cue-bidding:a) 4NT shows 0/2/4 (of 5) key-cardsB) New-cue implies 1/3/5 key-cards. After that 5NT is used to show the Q of trumps.Only exception: 1C-1any-2C is natural and NF. B)
inquiry
As several posters mentioned it: what is the Meckwell structure over opponents 1NT? Merckwell over 1NT is DBL = a minor one suiter, or a major two suiter2C = two suiter clubs plus either major2D = two suiter diamonds plus either major2H = hearts2S = Spades2N = minor two suiter This allows you to show any one suiter or any two suiter. You may want to look into suction and woolsey as well. Woolsey is: DBL = 4 cards in major and 5+ in a minor2C = major two suiter2D = major one suiter (unknown which)2H = hearts (5+) plus a minor2S = spades (5+) plus a minor2N = minor two suiter There are several flavors of Suction, one isDBL = penatly2C = diamond one suiter, or major two suiter2D = heart one suiter, or Spade-Club two suiter2H = spade one suiter, or club-diamond two suiter2S = club one suiter, or diamond-heart two suiter2NT = no-touching two suiter, either diamond and spades, or clubs and hearts I don't prefer suction here because it gets you two high with some hand (red two suiters for intance). Also Suction and Woolsey may or may not be ACBL GCC legal, but Merckwell clearly is.
cherdano
Thank you. It seems that Meckwell is a clear improvement over DONT, and Woolsey looks nice. For the record, I will be happy to stay with Lionel(X = Spades+another, 2C = clubs+hearts, 2D = diamonds+hearts, 2H = natural, 2S = natural, 2NT=minors).The advantage is that partner always knows exactly which two suits overcaller has by the time he has to pick one of them. The only disadvantage compared to Meckwell is that you can't show minor one suiters at the 2level. Which isn't that often useful anyway I'd think.
Trpltrbl
Recently I was bumming around the internet and ran across a site that discusses bridge - and within that site there is a board devoted to favorite conventions and treatments. Instead of taking a survery, I wanted to ask the general questions: 1. What is your "must have" set of conventions?2. Which treatment(s) could you live without?3. Which ones are totally unnecessary?4. Which ones have outlived their usefulness?5. Lastly, what treatment(s) have contributed to the game in a positive, constructive manner? 1) For me only 3 must have; Drury, Lebensohl and Minisplinters. 2 ) Rest 3 ) Rest 4 ) Flannery and Gerber 5 ) Support X and re X Mike ;D
