The 5-Level

hmm...insurance...I would be tempted to XX 6D lol. I'm bidding to make.

I'd guess 6 is down one most of the time, so I am not planning on redoubling, but it rates to make often enough that one has to bid it. In fact, I would have bid 5N last time

Partner rates to have at least 2 Clubs given that he seems to have a void Spade. Question is, to my mind, how likely is it that he has a fitting Ace or Queen in Clubs (I reckon rather unlikely) and if not how often will they be stacked over the KJ (or declarer misguesses if split) - my guess is quite high.

What the hey - I bid 6D anyway.

An interesting hand. Partner held x, K10xxxx, Kxxxx, 10. If you double and parnter guesses it is lead directing and leads a heart, and you guess to underlead the diamond Ace back, you get +300. (edited - we come to a club trick as well.)

My choice was to take out insurance and bid 6D. This was doubled and a trump was led (killer lead).

The 4S/5S bidder held: AQx, AQxx, xx, 9xxx.

On a trump lead and continuation 6D doubled is off -500.

What's that saying.....the 5 level belongs to someone.....

Heh, gotta admit its pretty surprising that he didnt have a spade void. 5S is a surprising bid with that hand as well.

I don't think it's clear partner will lead a heart against 5S X, but he should probably figure it out since we have length in both minors and presumably length in spades.

Yeah 5S seems very strange, but it worked against bad opps like us ;)

Anyway, even if we have somewhat more reliable opponents and thus a spade void with partner - it seems reasonable odds that we have just one loser, but is it also good odds for 12 winners on a trump lead?

I am still bidding 6, but I am certainly too chicken to redouble...
