Assume you play take-out doubles in passout seat. Would you use it? Would you raise to slam with the North hand? And @ second turn? Any other feelings? whereagles
Seems normal... maybe pulling out the dbl to 6♣, but at this level all is a bit of a guess.
EricK
It was a well timed pre-empt and sometimes you are going to lose out to those. Even so, I think the North hand is a raise to 6♣. Apart from the times it is cold, there will also be times when it makes because of the wrong lead (eg 7♣ 3♦ 2♠ ruffs when a ♥ lead through the King would defeat it)
Blofeld
It's not very nice, but I think I'd raise to 6♣ directly on the north hand.
pbleighton
Tough call. I would pass (forcing) as South the second time around, which would let North raise to slam. Raising to 6C directly looks good when you see all of the cards, but I don't think I would do it at the table. As far as the takeout double, unless I am reading the positions wrong, it makes no sense. Peter
HeartA
Even so, I think the North hand is a raise to 6♣. Agree. North should raise 5C to 6C. After South's double, to pull to 6C was obvious, imo.
neilkaz
With a ♠ void, great trump support and 2 side Kings I would have raised to 6♣ straight away and now I will pull the double to 6♣. I hope that I am not " resulting" the hand, but almost anytime I have been void in trumps and not bid on when I felt it was close, I was wrong. .. neilkaz .. Guest Jlall
I think souths 5C bid is very wrong, but it certainly should have worked here.
gwnn
Is it? Should South just have passed?
Guest Jlall
Is it? Should South just have passed? I think south has a double. With 2 little spades and tons of defense and not the greatest club suit and a relatively balanced hand I would much prefer to defend on a hand like this than declare at the 5 level unless partner can pull my double (which he will only do with a distributional hand that has the expectation of making). Also we may want to play in diamonds or possibly even hearts rather than clubs. 5C could work but I think it's anti-percentage.
