Free
Suppose you're playing standard leads, 4th best against NT, nothing special with honours. You see the following auction:pass - pass - pass - 1NTpass - 2♣ - pass - 2♠pass - 2NT - pass - passpass You hold ♣A9873 and decide to lead from this suit. What card do you lead? whereagles
In isolation, I see no reason to deviate from the usual 4th best lead. ♣7 thus.

I think that the textbook lead is the 9 of clubs, but I'm dreadful on this type of thing.
Blofeld
I lead the 9, but I haven't thought about this terribly much. Partner can't read it as a 4th highest, at any rate.
Guest Jlall
I would lead the 7 as the 9 is frequently too hard to read.
dake50
Partner is there with the same borderline invite rejected information as I have. He'll consider why C7 appeared from me.
mikeh
The 7. This should be easy for partner. When was the last time a partner of mine saw me lead 7 from 7xx in ♣s on this auction? (Hint: never) The rule of 11 may come into play here :) The 9 is more difficult: it would not be unusual to lead the 9 from 987xx. I do not consider this holding to be an interior sequence such that the 'book' lead is the top of the sequence. I need an honour in the sequence for that to apply (A1098x). neilkaz
If I lead the 9 he may missread things, if I lead the 7, surely it is 4th best on this auction.
pclayton
I recall a long, long time ago that this was treated as an interior sequence, but folks did other weird things back then, like lead MUD. Pard can figure out the 7 easily enough.
bid_em_up
I'm playing standard leads, why would I want to do anything other than lead the standard card? The 7♣ it is. If I think I need to portray the message that I really have a club suit, the 3 would be a distant second choice
paulg
The standard lead from xxx and xxxx probably varies by country/state/club and this may influence the decision. If playing MUD, then leading the ♣3 may be due greater consideration although I'd probably still lead the ♣7.
