temp3600
You are dealer with AK82 J54 K92 Q108, Red vs Red at IMPS, and the bidding goes : 1♣ 1NT X 2♥ P 2♠ P P ? X is standard, 2♥ transfer to spades. What do you do now? Michael
P_Marlowe
Pass was forcing, and I am happyto have this holding to make the dbl. It could be worse, a whole lot. With kind regardsMarlowe
Finch
It's helpful to have discussed this sequence with partner.I play that after the double we are in a forcing pass at the 2-level so I double.
whereagles
I believe the standard agreement is that pass is forcing. Thus, I dbl. Could hardly have a better hand for it :P
mcphee
Although I am not sure what hand partner has to say dble, I think I need to express an opinion. If partner has dbled with a poor hand we will need to have a chat. For me the dble of 1NT is penalty and should have approx. 8+ hcp and the dble of 2S shows S. I also think pass should be forcing here.
Codo
Okay, his X was 9+ HCP nearly any shape, but what was his pass? My regular pd and I, we play negative doubles in any situation where you may have one. So I would believe, that my pd has NO neg. double of 2 Spade which makes me wonder. MY choices are between pass and take the "sure" profite and 2 NT hoping for more, may getting less. I would pass. If his "pass" just denies a penalty double, which is the major view, I would double. PD more or less knows, that I have ecactly four spades, so he may judge to overrule me if they are protected by the law and his double was on the lower side of the possible range. pclayton
I don't double 1N with a random 8 count like some. Imagine pard's problem. You are sitting there with a 1444 11-13 count and are stuck over 2♠. You trust pard enough that this is a forcing sequence, so you pass. Don't dissapoint pard; double! They've made it before, but you have to like your chances here.

Adebisi
Pass cant be forcing, if u have min bal hand and u cant dbl spades u just pass and dont force partner to god knows where if he also has min 8/9 hcp.

neilkaz
I love the double of 1NT here. Looking at the doubler's hand with 3♦ it is a near certainty that the 1♦ opener is rather balanced so he must have 12 HCP minimum and 1NTx is likely in big trouble and any ♥ honors the overcall has are nearly worthless. .. neilkaz ..
