DWM
[hv=s=saqjtxxxhaqtdqjcx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Whats your plan on this one after Partner opens a wk 2 in Hearts? If you enquire he has a poor suit and 6/7 points.
P_Marlowe
Hi, 4H. Try to construct a hand for partner with theinformation you got from the enquiry, and you will fairly fast see, that you requirefairly specifc cards to make 6H a good bed. Maybe 4S is better, but I know about a 9 cardheart fit, and I wont look for another on. With kind regardsMarlowe
DWM
Slam was never in my thoughts. I was more thinking of either 3H, 4H or 4S.
P_Marlowe
Slam was never in my thoughts. I was more thinking of either 3H, 4H or 4S. Ok, then 4H. You wanna play game, your side has at most 3 top looser, and you have a source of tricks, i.e. game will be at worston a finess. And the only question is, which suit you set as trumps. It is usually a good idea, to make the long suit of the weak hand the trump suit. This will minimize certain communication problems you may encounter. Besides, although you have a 7 card suit, you will be hard pressed to find out, if partnerhas a singel / double or a 3 card spade suit. neilkaz
I'll take my shot at 4♥ and hope that PD can cover 1 of my possible losers or that the missing ♠ king is not problem.
hrothgar
Personally, I hope to end up in the right contract... I'm going make one try at slam and bid 2♠, natural and forcing. with luck, partner will be able to support Spades. If not, I'll bid 4♥ over any rebid. I believe that the original poster allready stated that he inquired, I presume thru Ogust, and the 2♥ opener has a weak suit and 6-7 HCP. Again, I ask everyone when starting a bidding thread to please be a bit more specific about what you are playing ! We have lots of talent here, and from many parts of the world, but time and effort can be wasted if people don't have all the specifics. I'm well aware that the original poster started with an OGUST sequence.I am simply stating that that would not have been my choice. I can construct a few hands where slam seems reasonable. Most of these require a double fit in Hearts and Spade along with the Ace of Diamonds. xxxKxxxxxAxxxx I already KNOW that partner has a bad Heart suit, so why am I bothering with OGUST? It doesn't give me any new information. A spade fit... Thats information I can use.
neilkaz
Hrothgar, my point about the original thread starters here being more specific about what their bids mean isn't directed at you, nor towards your thoughtful post. I agree with you completely and would also start with 2♠ since slam is possible opposite just the right hand. However, not everyone plays 2♠ as forcing. (I play RONF and strictly but not all do). Perhaps the intentions of the Ogust response were to find out if the opener had a good hand, ie a near max in HCP ? .. neilkaz ..
DWM
My thoughts on bidding Ogust was to hope for a bad suit good points reply (2♥) and then bid spades. I still cannot make a hand that would open week in first seat that has all the covers needed to stop the hand requiring a finesse to make slam. I did not mention our systems as they are very basic at the moment and am interested to here what people may suggest I should add to our system. When I looked at my hand I could see 5 losers, it is a fairly safe bet that P could cover the heart loser. Am I being pessimistic in thinking that he could not cover any others (even knowing he may have 6-7 points, or even 5 on a sunny day)? We used to use the 2NT bid to ask where outside values lay, is there a good way of getting both this and Ogust into a system?
pclayton
4♥. I'm not going to Ogust this hand. The best hand I can think of: ♠Kx, ♥KJxxxx, ♦Ax, ♣xxx is an opening 1 bid, unless you are in the Cayne camp. I'm a little concerned about the opps taking a sac. 3♠ fitted is possible, but I don;t think pard would have the right information, and I don't the opps to stick in a 4♣/4♦ call. 4♠ doesn't make any sense. Unless partner opens really bad weak 2's, all 4♠ accomplishes is making the ♠K a possible loser.
