pclayton
After being on BBF for 2 1/2 years, I thought I knew what was appropriate subject matter for the BI forum. Frances's post about the defense to 4♠ is an example of a hand that I think is a little too tough for the B/I. Frankly, I think its in the advanced category. By her admission, if 25% (I think thats the figure quoted) of top English players got it wrong, how can it be considered B/I? If there was another "Kantar for the Defense" book published, I think its a good candidate. Kantar's books usually fall into the "Advanced" category. Mind you, a national player should also be getting hands of the advanced level nearly all the time too. (Note: Killing Defense and books of that genre are published with the label of intermediate. To me, intermediate implies that an expert player will get 100% of the answers correct, which I don't believe is the case). I have posted a hand on another thread which I think is appropriate for the B/I thread. Tell me if you don't agree.
kenberg
When a player asks for comments on B/I I often comment. When a play hand is posted for solution on B/I I usually don't. I see what to do, or think I do, but figure the hand is not posted for me to comment on so I leave it be. Then, when I go back a day or two later, I often find that almost all comments on the play are from folks who surely do not consider themselves B/I. I commented on Frances' problem, however, because I didn't get it. It is probably not crucial to get the classification right, but in so far as we want to try it seems the following would be a self-correcting guide: If you post a hand on B/I and find almost all responses are from advanced players (of course that classification is a whole can of worms in itself) then you should consider posting hands of similar difficulty elsewhere. But the main thing is to post nice hands. If it's too hard, or too easy, we will survive.
csdenmark
For our novice to intermediate members to discuss issues and share advice (and for more skilled players to answer questions ;).I dont think this is so different to understand. To me it looks like many persons often claiming solid skill level have hard problems to understand that they normally have to stay away from this part of BBO Forum. When they involve I think their obligation must be to come up with advice aimed for growth - what they do themselves is of no importance here.
