2 boards played in a TM, your opps are star players on BBO. Please choose your bid.

You are sitting south all the time.

  • Double - I have two defensive tricks opposite a takeout double, so this rates to go down more often than not. They will not be making an overtrick and it is not a disaster even if it makes.
  • Pass - too defensive and likely to cost too much unless partner has a club fit

Board 1: dbl. The Law (without adjustments) says there's 21 trumps so I should bid 5. But with classic shape, partner might have bid 5 himself. Besides, I don't see any possible positive adjustments yet a couple of potential negative ones (shortage dupplication, low purity). The worst that can happen with dbl is +300 instead of +400, not such a disaster at IMPs.

Board 2: Pass. My values suggest it's their board and my O/D ratio suggests defending.

I (honestly :-) ) wrote this before seeing partner's hand. Now that I see partner's hand I would say that partner could bid 4.

Board 2 - why should pard bid 4 by themselves?

With a likely 5-3 fit (maybe 6-3) and a defensive holding, let the opponents try and make something.

It didnt work this time, that doesn't mean it wasn't the right bid.

Pass on the 2nd board is fine. Bad results happen. Look at the big picture, its a percentage action.

1. 4 the first time, then double if they bid 4. Double 4 as given.

I wonder if the passers are "not doubling for a 1-trick set" since they are NV. This may be the most likely case, but the hand might go down more than one (or make) so you pretty much have to double.

2. Pass. Not close to bidding or doubling.

I passed both hands. The results were not good.

I will show both of my p's hands.

5 made, 4 down 3.

2)

4 made, 4 down 2

For hand #1, I think it is the dbler who should bid 5C.

For hand #2, I would pass. You can't always get the best result.
