Finch
Love all, x-imps-teams-of-8 converted to VPs, supposedly high standard (English county championship qualifying round) [hv=d=n&v=n&s=sjxxxxhxdqxxxcxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Do you pre-empt to whatever you consider your limit, or do something more devious? hrothgar
I'm going to bid an immediate 4♠ This doesn't feel like the right hand to go and get fancy. I'm just too weak. most of the good psyches will be transparent.
cherdano
I bid 4♠. Quickly in fact, as I am curious about Frances' rant :(
MickyB
Yup, 4♠ is obvious. Can we have the rant yet?
pclayton
4♠ is certainly the straightforward bid. What it lacks in creativity it makes up in vacuuming up the available air of the auction. If I wanted to clown around, these would be the candidates: Pass, xx, 2♠, 2♦ --> (2♥) and 2N. hotShot
4♠ is obvious, because my partners won't open very strong hands with 1♠.
Free
4♠ is obvious, even if partner can hold 19HCP.
Echognome
How many spades did 1♠ show?
Robert
Hi everyone Are we playing 4 card majors and a weak NT? If 'five' card majors, 4S is the bid of choice in my methods. I do play a Big Club system and 1S-(X)-3S would show @ 7-9 with 4+ trumps. Regards, Robert
Finch
5-card majors in all cases, 1NT opening would have been any one of 9-11, 12-14 or 15-17 (the auction started this way at all 4 tables). I forgot to add redouble as an option.
Blofeld
4♠, but XX would be my first choice of psyche.
1eyedjack
3NT is another classic psyche in this situation. But neither this nor redouble will fool anyone these days.
Halo
3S Nothing stops people bidding these days. I say leave them the option of an average effort (4H) that needn't encourage slam, and doesn't allow a cue bid in our suit below game. macaw
4♠ for me. Make the other guys guess at the 5 level ;)
