weak 2 - balance with NT

You agreed with your partner that a 1NT overcall is same as your strong 1NT opening with double stop, but in balancing position it is a King less.

(1x)-p-(p)-1NT ; 1NT is 12-14.

And (2M)-2NT is also 15-17 with good stop.

Question:

Do you also lower requirement for NT in balancing:

(2M weak)-P-(P)-2NT

For (2M)-2NT, 15-17 seems a little too low. I'd expect a very good 15-count for a minimum, and the maximum is more like 18, occasionally 19.

In the protective position, 15-17 is more like it (though I'd still want to widen the range at the upper end, say 15-18). So I suppose the difference between direct and protective positions is less than a point, nothing like the four points or so over a 1-level opening.

Over a weak 2 I would not lower the req. for a

NT bid in bal. seat.

We overcall with most suitable hands in the 15-17/18

range.

Of course you may stretch, but you should not stretch

to much.

The reason: The partner to the weak two opener may

quite often be fairly strong, he may even be the strongest

guy on the table, he just does not have bid.

This is quite different, if one passes a one level opener.

With kind regards

Marlowe
