The position is now with West still to discard: ♠ -- ♥ KTx ♦ -- ♣ T9x ♠ -- ....... ♠ --♥ Qx ....... ♥ A9x♦ xx ....... ♦ --♣ KQx ....... ♣ Jxx ♠ -- ♥ Jxx ♦ -- ♣ Axx West can't throw a heart, as that allows North to exit ♥K, and can't throw a diamond, as that's the eighth trick. Throwing a low club (which was found at the table) allowed North to exit to my ♣A, at which point the club suit is blocked. The heart switch ensured down 1. It doesn't help West to throw a high club, as under the ♣A he needs to play low or he is throwing away the setting trick. How often do you see one of these? Bridge is a neat game. From the whole regional last week, this humble and irrelevant 2NT contract is the one I most enjoyed.
