Hi everyone

I play that double and forcing pass are reversed in many auctions. Opening 2C would certainly provide the values for my bidding. I would double here for takeout, 'if' partner choose to pass my forward going double, I would expect a bloodbath to take place.

Without prior agreement, I would lay the double as 'I do not think we have game' do as you wish. Pass should be forcing here in 'standard' methods.

I concur with Marlowe 'if' pass had been forcing, I would now bid 3H over the double.

Regards,

Robert

It is a common treatment that dbl show very weak hand over pd's 2C opening and rho's overcall, suggesting no game interest and preferring defense. So pass is the "right" call.

I never heard about this very common agreement. So for me double in the first round was easy, even without discussion.

There are many 'common' treatments for responder's double of an overcall after partner has opened 2C. The three most popular are

i) take-out

ii) penalties

iii) showing a very weak hand

Pass of course is forcing whatever double means.

I wouldn't have made a negative double on this hand with a void. I would expect partner to pass with 4 trumps, or often 3 trumps and a balanced hand, which will not be the right spot.

There are various meanings for partner's reopening double as well, but I think this is most commonly played as showing a balanced hand. Suits bid.

I now bid 4C. Partner will work out I have very short clubs but didn't fancy bidding a suit last round.
