Here is the post mortum chat: Opp2 (I believe) is mentoring my partner)

wackojack: pity about the lead

partner: yes I was studying at www.crappyleads.com

opp1: lol

opp2: likely to cash more tricks leading from Kxx than Kxxx

wackojack: not criticizing

opp2: sure, just didn't want xxx to think it was a poor lead per se

As the cards lay, the club lead gives the contract. Any other defeats it. What is the reason for leading from Kxx in this situation giving better odds than leading from Kxxx? I am not suggesting this is wrong, but would just like to know why.

There is no apparent reason to lead a low diamond rather than a low club. With this said, I wouldn't lead either. I'll go passive and lead a trump. We have the side suits, so let declarer solve his own problems.

Besides, a trump lead won't give anything declarer couldn't have done himself.

Why does it matter if your spots are not pretty?

Because one of the reasons you would attack with a minor is to set up more than one trick in the suit. KTxx or even K9xx gives you more of a chance if Declarer has AJx for instance.

OTOH, with higher spots the leads may also become more risky (assume partner has Jxx).

You do not underlead Kings in an unbid suit into the best hand at the table at a suit contract?

Depends if we are desperate or not. Dummy hasn't advertised a trick source, so whats the hurry to break a suit here?

On the other hand if I heard: 1 - 2, 2, 4, I'd lead a .

Ok, of course dummy may have the best hand at the table on that auction in 2/1. In the first auction it seems clear rho has the best hand.

Depends if you have to go active or not,

with the given sequence, it is probably a

toss up if you have to, nobody knows, if

opener has enough or has to find the necessary

tricks.

=> This uncertainty speaks probably for a passive

lead, since most people tend to stretch to bid game.

With kind regards
