uday
I have installed a new server. Tourney-related changes include a) Ff a new board is about to be played, but less than half the alloted time per board remains, the board is skipped, with AVERAGE assigned to both sides. For instance, in a 3 board round, 8 mins per board, a new board will not be started unless there are at least 4 minutes left in the round. :) A board in play can be adjusted by the director c) Logic for Unclocked events has been altered. I believe that we will see fewer playbacks now d) A bug that prevented some Team players from seeing a Director! button has been fixed e) Subs who put their name on a Sub List are now associated with individual Tourneys f) Director may now edit Time-per-board while the tourney is in progress g) When assigning subs, a director need not fill in the replacement player name. If this name is left blank, the server will invite the 1st two people on the sub list. If the sub list is empty, a request for subs is sent to the lobby h) The sub list contains a little more information about each sub (level, country)

I hate Windows because they usually know better then I what I want and dont allow me to do it my way. From where do you know the game will not finish in time ? Didnt you see play a board only 3 or 4 minutes ? I did. How many time do you need to pass out ? Why must players some minutes watch inactive screen ? You can award average at end as well. But director will have a possibility to award adjusted score if he want. Please, throw this function out or give me a button I could switch it off. :) A board in play can be adjusted by the director Very nice. c) Logic for Unclocked events has been altered. The many boards per round you play the more you need it. No "software problem" to do so, I think. g) When assigning subs, a director need not fill in the replacement player name. Saves time and avoids mistypes by substitution. h) The sub list contains a little more information about each sub (level, country) Useful. uday
>I hate Windows because they usually know better then I what I want and dont allow >me to do it my way. From where do you know the game will not finish in time ? In an unclocked movement, the TD is free to set the time per board to the max, whatever this is, and this will effectively disable this. There will be side-effects ( other tables will wait longer for this table, and if this table continues to be slow, it will drag down a number of tables into sluggishness as well, the field will "split", the director will have to work longer, and the other players will have to wait longer for results). In a clocked movement, you don't have such a workaround, and must live with it until we find the time to make it an option. In the meantime, if it is any consolation, for every player who misses his chance to wrap up a hand in half the time, there are probably dozens who can't , and will yell for the director; this reduces the number of tables a director can manage, since he is busy analyzing and adjusting boards that might otherwise have simply been skipped. Bridge is a timed event; if 50% of board time is too conservative, we can easily fiddle with the actual number.
