pclayton
Its your first live game in a few weeks. We decided to try out a new location, since the normal Tuesday game has gone downhill, so we go to Leisure World (one of the 1st 55 and older communities) for their game. Some of the players are fair, but many are not. But the room is huge, the tables are well space, the lighting is excellent, and the card fees are $4! I haven't paid $4 for a club game since the mid-80's! Here was an enjoyable hand: [hv=d=w&v=n&n=skt54hq952dkt92cq&w=sq98ht3dj85ck8765&e=saj76hkj76da43c43&s=s32ha84dq76cajt92]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv] My RHO opens 1♦ in 3rd. Undeterred, I make a lead-directing, preemptive (i.e. BAD) 2♣ overcall. LHO passes, pard passes and RHO balances. LHO passes and pard rescues with a xx, which I pull to 2♥ and play it there). I received the lead of the ♦5, and got a diamond back, which I won in dummy. I won't tell you how I played it, but I think that there's 9 tricks there if I totally DD it. I was moderately satisfied with 8, even though it was dead average, since we lost to a few +120's our way. No comments on the auction here; the play's the thing. Gerben42
I haven't paid $4 for a club game since the mid-80's! Wow, what DO club games cost around the ACBL? And if the prices are so high, at least there is prize money? Right?

I haven't paid $4 for a club game since the mid-80's! Will make a comment similar to Gerben's. To give you an idea table money at our local clubs are: Coventry: £2.50 (~ $4.75), no free drinks, but bar prices are cheap.Kenilworth: £2 (~ $3.75), includes coffee or tea and a cookie.Lillington: £1.50 (~$2.75), includes coffee or tea and a cookie. I don't know how much other clubs around cost. But, I do know that most are around £2. I suspect that they are higher in London.

And if the prices are so high, at least there is prize money? Right? Its been a while since I have played in club games, but I believe the card fees usually run about $6.00 U.S. per session (some clubs may be slightly more, others slightly less). This is also probably dependent on which area of the country you are in, somewhat. Most clubs will have a "pot" that you can pay extra to participate in (as a prize fund), but it is not included in the card fees.
ArcLight
I played a little at a local club. (New Jersey Exit 14 :) )Their charge is $9 I consider that high enough, that I'd rather play online.

The only jackpot game I know of is in Reseda that collects an extra buck from the players, and its winner take all. So winning a 20 table game gets you $40 for the winning partnership. Special events like the junior fund game or NAOP qualifying is $1 more. Sectionals are $9 (I think), regionals are $10-11 per session.
