DWM
Same hand as I posted before, but from the other side After 1♠-(P)-1NT-(2♣) What would double show? Is it some sort of take out or will it show something else as no bidding space has been taken up?
inquiry
For those wondering what hand.. here is a link to it... Hand being discussed here.... Don't let the hand actually held influence your view of what the double should show....
Guest Jlall
Almost all modern experts play this X as takeout, though in the past it has been used as penalties. I think takeout is a much more useful agreement.
pclayton
Takeout is pretty normal. The exact shape is open for debate, personally I think 5-4-4-0 makes the most sense.
mcphee
Dble is take out, the old days of penalty is gone. What else woould you like if you held a 5-4-3-1 or 5-3-4-1 (dble seems clear), isn't the responder in the best position now to make the most intelligent decision for the partnership? Minimum balanced hands pass and wait to hear what partner has to say. You bid for a reason in front of what could be minimum values for 1NT.
