sceptic
Hi all Update time currently (that is today) we have 37 single rooms and 3 double rooms booked at the hotel and deposits paid, we have approximately 20 + people that are seriously considering coming and one from the states. there is a list of most of the attendees, some people do not wish their ID to be listed (so I have to respect their wishes) If you are undecided wheter to come or not, please think about it, I spent part of last weekend with the TD we have for the weekend and I was suitably impressed with the friendliness and professional manner in which the weekend went. There will be loads of bridge and loads of time to relax and socialise, please come to this meeting and meet your friends or take the opportunity to meet new friends, I intend to make this an annual gathering and I will do everything I can to to maintain the integrity of the weekend. Primary focus is to enjoy each others company, secondary is to enjoy some bridge If you are unable to come, please tell people about it, the more the merrier http://www.geocities.com/incognito_uk_2000/

Deanrover
Why are you hosting this in Coventry? That's one of the worst cities in the UK, I really think you would get more people together if you did it in Edinburgh or London...... badderzboy
I suspect this will be the 1st of many and move around the UK I'm from the North East and Coventry isn't the easiest place to get to in Jan but I'm still going and Coventry is fairly Central in the UK. I would prefer to give kudos to people getting up and organisng the event than worry why wasn't it at so and so! Steve
sceptic
It kind of makes me wonder, why people make comments like this. [edited by rain]
kenberg
Sorry I can't come but I spent a few weeks on the outskirts of Coventry (I was at a conference at the University of Warwick) and I enjoyed it greatly. It was some thirty years ago but I remember a nice church with very good acoustice, heard Verdi's Requiem there I believe, nearby castles, nice walks in the country. And of course there was the Lady Godiva Theater. Nice place. And the meeting sounds like a great idea. Ken

If I recall correctly, the Coventry Hilton is just off the M6 motorway and in fact a good deal outside Coventry itself - it having been used for EBU events any times in the past. It is a pleasant enough hotel in a very easy to reach place. Seems ideal for the purpose in mind.
Echognome
I just wanted to add for anyone thinking of coming, that Stratford-upon-Avon (Shakespeare's birthplace) is about 15 miles away as is Warwick Castle. The Cotswolds are nearby as well (I'm impartial to Chipping Campden). Within Coventry itself you have the Coventry Cathedral (bombed out during the war), and a big automobile museum. I would also recommend a visit to Spon St which has been restored to look as it was in medieval times (and is also where the bridge club is located so come on by!). GeeGee
Don't know a lot about Coventry, it's just a place I used to pass through on the way to Birmingham. I'm just looking forward to meeting people I've played with on-line, or chatted with through these forums. If anyone can also introduce me to highlights of Coventry as well, that'll be great. B) I really like the idea of seeing Spon St. http://www.thecoventrypages.net/hstoric-cov/spon-street.asp . Thanks for that Echognome As an aside, if (say) it had been in Central London, as someone who lives on the outskirts of London, I would have been rather more reluctant to come.
