how to bid this

2/1.

1S-2D

2H* (extras, natural) - 3C* (either values or unbalanced, lacking 3 spades)

4S - 5C

5NT* (where are we going?) - 6S (my KS must be worth something).

KLPV16

1C*(strong) - 1NT (GI or better, 5-5, any 2 suiter)

2S* (natural, asking for degree of fit) - 3D* (one spade, to a high honor)

3H* (SSAB) - 3S* (3rd round control)

3NT* (semi serious try for slam) - 4C* (lacking diamond control, has club control)

6S

Ultra

1C* (strong) - 1NT (GI or better, 5-5, any 2 suiter)

2S* (CAB) - 3H* (5 controls)

3S* (TAB) - 4C* (either the K or the AQ)

6S

Hi All,

(1) 2/1 - what's that? LOL

(2) Standard Precision:

..........1

2 - 3

4 - 4

4NT - 6

Pass

Not ideal: 3 insisting on Spades, 4 & 4 cues, 4NT RKCB, 6 2Aces + Q + Void.

(3) Precision with Asking Bids:

...........1

2 - 2

3 - 3

4 - 4

4 - 5

5 - 5

5NT - 6

Explanations:

2 Asking in Spades

3 No good Spade Support 4+ Controls

3 Asking again in Spades and setting as trumps unconditionally

4 Singleton Honour or xx in Spades

4 General Control Asking

4 5 Controls

5 Asking in Clubs

5 No Control of Clubs OR 1st AND 2nd Round Control

5 Asking in Hearts

5NT 3rd Round Control

6: Knows this is a sensible spot. Partner must have either the stiff K AND the K, or a small Doubleton Spade and the Ace of Diamonds as well as the AK to make up their 5 Controls. They cannot have the Ace of Diamonds AND the stiff K. Whether the 3rd Round Control of Hearts is xx, Qx, or Qxx(x) is immaterial.

Regards,

Oliver

With freak hands, who knows what's the ideal bidding. Playing a strong 2 I imagine I would bid:

2 - 2

4 - 4NT

5 - 6

Playing precision similar, but starting with 1.

Playing relay precision it's tougher (always is for us with a singleton K).

1(1) - 2(2)

2NT® - 3(3)

3® - 3(4)

3® - 4(6)

4® - 5(7)

6

(1) 16+ any

(2) 55 or better minors

(3) short spades

(4) 1=2=5=5

(5) 3 is a weak relay saying you need a lot for slam, and 4 says 13+hcp with exactly 4 controls.

(6) A or K, but not both. A or K or both, A or K or Q

So responder is known to be x Qx Kxxxx AKxxx OR x Qx Axxxx Axxxx. With the first hand, slam is certainly no guarantee and it might well go off on the A lead (the K is a surprise bonus that makes the slam very good). But on any other lead, you can shake your losing diamond on the clubs. Of course, one may take the pessimistic view and bid 5. It's certainly not a convincing auction.

What is a good auction for these hands in

1. 2Over1 if East opens 2 with 9 tricks

2. Precision without relays

3. System of your choice (including relays)

Thanks,

Sriram

Precision (purple) with asking bids

I agree with 1C opening.

1 p 2m p

positive response forcing to game

2 p 3 p

spade suit, partner denies Hxx or xxxx spades, but shows 4+controls

3 p 4 p

ask again in spade suit, partner shows King (lowest step no honour, next Q etc)

5 p 5N p

asking control in side suit diams, response shows second round (K or singleton)

6 ap

No diam control, so small slam only.
