The only reason to pass is your 4crd ♥, but being first hand and not vulnerable at IMPs I would open 3♣. Steven
P_Marlowe
3C or 4C. With kind regardsMarlowe
Blofeld
4♣. I'd rather bid 5♣ than 3♣.
Guest Jlall
3C. 4C and 3C are close, but my suit is so bad I'll go for 3C... pass is not an option to me with this hand. Forget about hearts.
pclayton
3♣ or 4♣; my style is the latter since I'm 7-4.

cnszsun
Our hand: [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sakxxxxhdxxxxcaxx&s=shqxxxdjxckj9xxxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP3♣-3♠4♣-4♦4♠-6♣[/hv] We play 2/1 and not much agreements. I opened 3♣, after hearing partner's 3♠ then 4♦, i can't be sure what 4♦ bid means, two suited or some cuebid? I made a imaginative bid 4♠ (at the table, i thought this may be the only makable game if my partner is one suited hand). My partner found his hand upgraded after my 4♠, then jump to 6♣.I made 5♣ at last. What will you do after my partner's 4♦? (assuming you don't know his hand, he said later he made a tactical bid)Is my 4♠ so fault, or i should bid 5♣ so obviously?
sceptic
4 clubs, 3 clubs is a better suit for me
Codo
I had passed the hand, I nver have a four card major in a preempt. And after 3 Club 3 Spade, I had rebid 4 Heart. PD will then hopefully end the bidding in 5 Club.
whereagles
I stopped worrying of side 4 card majors long ago. 3♣.
A1i
I would bid 5♣ after 4♦. whatever 4♦ is, South has no extra(control or support) to introduce. However ,If I were North I would pass 4♠ ,for both hands have no control in ♦. Impact
Surely after the 3S response to 3C, the better rebid is 3NT (rather than 4C). No one suggests that as the pre-empting hand you promise stoppers in unbid suits, and whatever you do it tends to deny S support (else cue bid red - which I would interpret 4H to be- or raise to 4S). Once responder effectively knows that there is no S support he needs at least CKxxxxxx and a D control for slam. Those odds have slimmed with the short S (2 short suits is slight). The odds against effectively 1-4-1-7 precisely are high - so now you are banking on DA - or the slam being at best 50% if he holds DK (depending on your style eg DKQ possible?). So - after 3C-3S 3NT responder's obvious bid is 5C with no reason to investigate for "perfection" ...
neilkaz
I lean toward opening 3♣. My side 4 card major is headed by the Q and I am void in the other major. We might miss a 44 ♥ fit, or get buried with ♣ offside sitting over me, but I'll take that chance. I won't open 4♣ here as my ♣ don't look good enough and it will be really hard to find ♥ if that is where we belong. .. neilkaz ..
