mpefritz
Is there a mechanism to prevent partner from making bad claims (actually concessions) in individual tournaments while defending? Recently, while playing in an indy MP tournament, one of my partners made a wrong concession on defense which I could not override. At some point, I have probably done the same in the past and probably will do so in the future to my partners. fritz
csdenmark
YES of course take care who you choose/accept for partnership!
Free
Just ask not to claim when defending. When playing as declarer, it a lot clearer to see if your claim is correct so no problems there :)
paulg
Just another facet of individual tourneys that adds to their mysticism and charm :) The problem that may arise if you are able to prevent partner from making a concession is the passing of unauthorised information to him. Rather than have to resolve a UI problem, I'd rather have the current position and take the occasional hit - although I understand the frustration if you still have tricks that can never be lost. inquiry
I think it would be the height of rudeness to suggest before play that your partner not be allowed to make claims or concessions. After all, the game is a timed event and speeding it up will certainly help. However, you are not competing as a team, but rather as individuals, and if your partner makes a very bad concession. I suggest you call the director and send them a copy of the movie and explain what happened. Law 71 should provide you some recourse. Here is the WBF wording of Law 71, pay particular heed to 71A (71B is not possible with BBO online concessions). And if I was the director, of an online game, I might listen to a 71C complaint...but 71A is clearly applicable...say you have the master trump and your partner conceedes the remainder of the tricks. As a director, I would adjust the score for sure. ============== LAW 71 - CONCESSION CANCELLEDA concession must stand, once made, except that within the correction period established in accordance with Law 79C, the Director shall cancel a concession: A. Trick Cannot Be Lostif a player has conceded a trick his side had, in fact, won, or a trick his side could not have lost by any legal play of the remaining cards. B. Contract Already Fulfilled or Defeatedif declarer has conceded defeat of a contract he had already fulfilled, or a defender has conceded fulfilment of a contract his side had already defeated. C. Implausible Concessionif a player has conceded a trick that cannot be lost by any normal22 play of the remaining cards. Until the conceding side makes a call on a subsequent board, or until the round ends, the Director shall cancel the concession of a trick that could not have been lost by any normal play of the remaining cards. ================== Ben
