bestguru
Do you all know of a natural system that uses 2♣ by responder as an artificial GF? I found the idea at the bottom of a bottle of wine, but it seems like it might have some advantages over 2/1. I know I'm not the first to think of it, but I've never seen it. What do you think of the idea?
kenrexford
I'm not sure if this qualifies, but I have long known of a "system" of calls that approximates this. A "Golady 2♣" call is a 2♣ response to an opening bid, artificially establishing a game force, with transfer rebids by opener. I still use this after minor openings. Golady had some asking bid structure following the transfer. Acceptance of the transfer agreed trumps and was a Top Control Asking Bid. Now, I just use cuebidding if the transfer is accepted. Coupled with Golady was a bid called a "Toddler 2♦." I cannot remember the exact parameters, but I seem to recall that Toddler was a 2♦ call that was limited and showed 3+ diamonds, with some strange rebid structure. I learned this is the context of a strange canape system, played by two guys who were just figuring out how to do this. Not all of what they played made sense, but I liked the Golady call, as I mentioned, and have adopted it in a limited fashion. I think the grand guru of their thinking was someone from Canada -- not sure...

I can think of a million more important issues. :D
the hog
Power uses 2C as an artificial game try and 2D as an artificial GF by responder. This works ok, but the relays get a bit high.
Impact
I think you'll find that it has been around for a very long time: Danielson's relay Precision circa mid to late 1970's offered 2C GF relay to all main range one-level bids, and 2D as an invitational bid (not natural either). AFAK those responses (as opposed to continuations) were not ground-breaking at the time (other than perhaps their application to Precision). Tola18
I think this isnt uncommon, and dont need to be especially cerebreal. I know for sure some swedish players do play it, dont think they use it as complicated. I know also it is in WJ2005, as 2NT jacoby there is inviting. (not "at least inviting" as is common in Sweden). There are no complicated relay-schemes here no. Although there are surely those who do complicate thing either it is necessary or not. :P

It has Toddler and Golady along with two slightly lunatic bidding systems; Canadian Club and Valentines.
kenrexford
Thanks for the link. I found the bidding system used by the people who introduced me to Golady also somewhat lunatic. However, from the minds of the insane occasionally come some good ideas...
