pigpenz
playing in an acbl game the other dayauction came up1nt pass 2♣ pass2♥ pass 2nt pass3nt all pass now just before the 3nt final bid a query answer popped upin the bidding box over 2♥ saing 4 hearts :D it was my lead and my partner had asked the question holdingfive hearts in his hand...in my opinion i though this was very unethical or suspect at the least. Maybe the questions should only be answered to the person who asked them just like we cant see what partners alerts are. This would be a way to alleviate this problem
DrTodd13
That's the way I implemented it in my system.

Free
Re-educate your partner, because this is asking questions for fun and it puts you in a difficult position to lead. If it's a pickup, just don't play with him anymore. Fred has other plans at the moment, and his point of view on the situation makes sense imo. Tola18
There is also the possibility to ask lefty or righty only; thus also possibility answering only one of them. I know, danger is the declarer by mistake answers to the room or to both...
DrTodd13
See this thread where Fred gave his reason why he prefers the current system. Fred basically said he didn't want to have the same person have to answer the same question twice should both opps ask about a bid. However, there's no reason one couldn't remember the first explanation and provide it to the second opp upon request. All it requires is programming. I suspect Fred has a model where he doesn't cache the result and is resistant to doing so perhaps fearing lots of work for little gain. I would prefer a system where the system masks potential ethics issues (and makes them non-issues) rather than relying on an educational campaign for people to learn the ethics of when and how to ask for an explanation and how to deal with UI issues.
