Perhaps the experts can help with their opinions. Thanks Al
whereagles
Given RHO's double, it is very likely pard won't be interested in any sort of slam. Therefore you can afford to overbid slightly. 4♥ seems par, or, if you have that agreement, 4♦ showing long diams and heart support. This seems better than 3♥, which doesn't reflect your playing strength, despite being the "book bid" for this hcp range. I don't like splintering with singleton aces, by the way. Looks like the real question is yet to come, though... what to do after 4♠ by LHO :(
Free
After the double, you should show your hand as good as possible. You expect some ♠s on your left, so it has to happen now. We don't want to present our partner or ourselves with a problem the next round of bidding. So what explains best? Imo, a 4♦ fit jump would be great if you have that. Otherwise a splinter will show our problem in ♠, long ♦ and 4♥.
xx1943
Rite this is the full hand. [hv=d=w&v=a&n=st5432h74d9ckt742&w=sj9hkq53dak8763ca&e=sa8hajt98dqt42c96&s=skq76h62dj5cqj853]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] North bids 4♠ after 3 ♦, 3♥ or 4♥ but 5♠ after 4♣ or 4♦. Do you see any chance to reach the grand? How would you bid without opponents intervention? Al
SoTired
The hand changed! But in either case, I would bid 4D, which shows a game-force heart raise with a 6-card diam suit headed by at least 2 of the top 3 honors. If next hand bids 5S, Responder holding Ax AJxxx Qxxx xx can count 13 tricks provided opener has ♥KQ and ♣A along with the announced ♦AK-sixth. It is a guess. Certainly opener with x KQxx AKxxxx Kx would bid the same.
Mr. Dodgy
XX, reopening. I don't want to play below 5-something with this hand growing big. Assuming the TOX shows black suits, I like an invisible cue-bid here but I'm not sure which one - so I'll wait until next round to decide :( Unobstructed, after: 1♦-1♥, I still don't want to play below the 5-level. I really need to find about about the ♦Q, ♠A and ♥A to think about slam, and the only way I can ensure that is to bid 4♦, now. 5♣-6♣-6♦-6♥-7♦/♥/NT. I'm far from confident I'd come up with this at the table, though.
catatonic
obviously 2nt ; can't be natural , as you would redouble ; this shows a minimum of a good raise to 3 hearts , so if partner just bids 3H you just bid 4 ; if you just bid 4H should take this as having a PE element but if he takes some other action , you know what to do ; presumably on this hands he[she] shows diamond support so your response is obvious in fact this is analagous to 1H , x , 2nt showing the good raise whereas 3H is PE
pclayton
Getting to grand is pretty routine in a good game although 20-30% of the pairs still wouldn't get there. I would expect the key decision is whether or not NS sac in 7♠ . West has either a 4♣ or 4♦ (showing a strong 6-4). East can take over with key card with 3 - 3 1/2 big cards. Once West is aware the partnership has all keys, the hand should be placed in 7♥.
