neilkaz
I am winning 2 tricks in ♣ and I doubt the 3♣ bidder expects to lose more than 1. This sure seems like a part score hand and I'll double and hope to collect 300.
mikeh
double is a standout: if not now, when? The beauty of this auction is that partner knows that I am not doubling for a 3 trick set, or such, because I did not sit for the double of 2♣. Also, bear in mind that he was prepared to sit for a penalty double of 2♣: if his hand so lacked defensive values that he'd want to pull such a double, he would have reopened with a suit bid, not double. So he has some modest defensive strength and I have an easy lead... I expect 300.
jdeegan
:P DOUBLE. I have two trump tricks, and we have half the high cards. If RHO does have a seven-bagger as he indicates, he wins five clubs. For a set, we have to win three of the remaining six tricks holding (at worst) 60% of the high cards outside the club suit. Partner has already evidenced a willingness to defend 2♣ doubled by doubling in the balancing seat, so his hand should have some decent defensive values. Will we fail to set the contract once in a while? You bet. But, bridge, esp. matchpoints, is a game of percentages. Not doubling is, imo, an admission that our partnership is unable to get our tricks on defense.
bid_em_up
Assuming your partner is competent, there is no reason not to double. :P I expect at LEAST 300, quite possibly more. If I was vul against not, I'd have to consider 3N, at least temporarily, before taking the sure plus.
SoTired
dblunless i have misread the auction, this looks like an obvious dbl. I can almost hear West muttering under his breath, "pls don't dbl... pls don't dbl"
whereagles
Dbl seems canonical. Some people can't stand letting opps play at the 2 level and they have to be shown the errors in their ways B) (OR MINE'S!)
