Free Posted December 4, 2003 Report Share Posted December 4, 2003 If you don't open this hand in 1st seat 1H, then you get what you deserve: partner psyches, you make a 'to play 4H' bid, you won't have a clue (ever!) that partner is psyching, and you have to descide yourself if you'll play 5H or not. Partner has nothing to say in this bidding sequence and there's no way you'll find out he lied! Say you open 1H (I would, and not because rule of 20, but because of only 7 losers) no problem will arise. And if you don't open 1H, bid at least 2H (or are you too strong for that? when do you bid ever?)... Say you pass and partner opens 1H like this case, I'd NEVER bid 4H in favorable vulnerability if opponents DARE to bid 1NT!!! Dbl -2 earns more than 4H+2... In the 35 years I've played, I have had hundreds of heated discussions and disagreements with many players and they are all still my friends.. I agree I will open this hand(I am relatively a sound opener), but this post is really about psychic bidding. Even though you will avoid this problem for sure with this hand if you open it, you still will face other psychic bidding problem when you hold another hand. I posted a similar question about when we should psych and what to psych and how to explore opp's possible psych. Unfortunately not much discussion about it. I think this is rather difficult in a very intensive competition when you put all your effort into bidding and play. It is just like in defense, there maybe a way, but you just could not imagine it. Trpltrbl Posted December 24, 2003 Report Share Posted December 24, 2003 You got what you deserved for not opening 1h :-)When you have a 1h opening and you pass you are not allowed to blame pd for choosing the wrong opening bid. 2 1/2 quick tricks and nice shape, 1 H opening normal even if r point count is very minimum, at least according to you :)Hope r pd at least bought y a beer at the bar since his 1 H psyche was horrid ;). 1 Sp if y wanna psyche.
