JRG
I just thought of a great way to chew up CPU cycles! It would be nice to be able to filter who is allowed to sit at a table one hosts. For example, allow anyone who is marked as a Friend or for whom a seat is Reserved (which would be my favourite combination). People not allowed to sit would receive a message such as "Table settings don't allow you to play". The filtering could be more general than my example -- perhaps similar to the View filters for a club: Filter on language, country, level, champion. MorK
In my mind a good ideaor maybe a filter, which does exclude Name: Private, E-Mail: Private, etc.... would be nice ;-) Sincerely Yours,Felix Zimmermann.
DrTodd13
From my experience, people do not read table notes before joining a table. Ask for expert+ and you get a bunch of "private" and intermediates trying to join. Advertise you play forcing pass and you get people who leave after one hand. I suppose that filtering on level would be better than nothing. People should have the ability to filter on country but I don't think that I would like someone who regularly excluded some or most countries. Language is an important issue but the BBO language indicator is not useful for figuring out whether the person speaks your language. It breaks down for the multi-lingual. Allowing friends to always sit is not all that great either. I have some people marked as friends that I just talk to but don't really want to play with or against. We need more markers...one for friends, one for partners, one for enemies and one for do-not-partners.

I suspect you can blame the "Find me a table to play" button for that. They're transported to any open seat automatically, and it can't read table notes. Perhaps it would be better if it displayed the table information to the player, and asked "Do you want to join this table?"

And your remedy, Barmar, sounds logical. Also easy to programme. And better than the alternative to filter in which are allowed to sit in: adv and above, experts and above, all friendly and so on... paulg
There are things that I'd much rather that Fred and Uday spent their time on. Use the 'permission to sit' option and filter it yourself! Paul

DrTodd13
There are things that I'd much rather that Fred and Uday spent their time on. Use the 'permission to sit' option and filter it yourself! Paul I agree it is not highest priority but it is annoying and I think it should be done eventually. I don't know whether "find me a table" is totally to blame or just partly to blame but it is super annoying that only about 1 out of 7 or 8 attempts to join match the stated table properties. If you're in the middle of typing a message to someone then the permission to join dialog box pops up and gets focus and the message box goes behind the main window. At a minimum, I'd like to see the permission box come to the front but not receive focus.
