awm
Well ignoring the religious opinions, are Versace and Lauria really the best bridge partnership in the history of the game? While perhaps a case can be made, I would think that the original Italian Blue Team had a better track record of international success. And Hamman/Soloway have been a pretty long-time effective international partnership for the United States. Keep in mind also that the US teams are often forced to field a sponsor for financial reasons, who is usually a reasonable player but not up to the high level of the rest of the US or Italian international teams. This suggests that the top partnerships on Bermuda Bowl-winning US teams (like Hamman/Soloway or Meckstroth/Rodwell) have to be even stronger to compensate for the weaker third pair. Robert
Hi everyone One old time Blue Team player won a world championship on his first attempt and followed up with 12 more world champship wins in a row. The current crop of Italians might be very good, however, that record of 13 world championship wins in a row is not in any danger. It means that now you need ca. 6-7 Bermuda Bowl wins in a row to prove that you are as good as the champions of the past. M.

Regards, Robert Someone will have to check, but i don't think italy won 13 bermuda bowls in sequence. I seem to remember it was 9 or 10, not that winning 9 or 10 in a row is anything other than awesome.
Robert
Hi everyone Italy won 10 world championships between 1957 and 1969, the Blue Team retired and returned to win in 1973, 1974 and 1975. The Blue Team won 13 in a row, 'when they played.' The current holders have won 'one' in a row. I do not see how winning 6-7 current worldchampionships would match winning 13 in a row. Whether you play once a year or every other year, winning 13 in a row is still much better than 6-7 in a row. Regards, Robert

Now, when BB is organized once in a two year, 5 consecutive wins menas that you are the best in 10 consecutive years. In this sense winning 5 "match" winning 10 ;-) M. kenberg
Winning 5 matches is like winning 5 matches. Winning 10 matches is like winning 10 matches. For example, having 1 child every other year for 10 years is very different from having 1 child every year for 10 years. Try it, you will see this is true. Gerben42
Whatever... I still think that Fantoni - Nunes are the best pair in the Italian team. All 3 pairs have been very impressive though during the tournament.
