starfruit
I do remember the last time I had 16 HCP behind a 15-17 1NT opener, but this hand has to be my first :[hv=d=n&v=b&s=sk42hatxdakjtxxca]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 19HCP with a strong ♦ suit ready to run... However our methods here do not include a penalty double (we're playing DONT).So what's your choice here? Will double(showing a 1suiter) followed by a jump to 3♦ show this hand? Edit : only 6 carded ♦s lol
pclayton
Lately I've been passing these hands. I'm happy to defend 1N and I can compete over 2M comfortably. I'm not convinced its the best action, but its currently my style
hrothgar
I'd pass and take my plus No way to realistically explore 3NT...
pbleighton
Pass. If the opps weren't vulnerable I might bid. I think 9 tricks is a lot more likely as a defender than as a declarer. Peter

I'm not convinced its the best action, but its currently my style  I pass as well, and I *am* convinced it's the best auction. Especially with that 33 in the majors telling me there's a good chance this ends up 1NT. by the way, a 3371 is wierd
P_Marlowe
Hi, Pass, they are red, you know, they will be -2,and -3 or more is possible. With kind regardsMarlowe
mikeh
It would be good to know whether I really hold 14 cards, or, if not, where the extra card is. If I do hold AKJ10xxx in ♦, I double and then bid 3N.... Sure, this comes with no guarantees, but I am more interested in +600 than I am in +400... and why can't partner have a useful J or two? Or better? We are very unlikely to hold declarer to 1 trick if we pass (assuming it goes all pass... which it may well NOT do) However, if I hold only 6♦, I pass: this change dramatically reduces my chances of making game while barely affecting my defensive prospects. starfruit
Alright seems like pass will be the more popular option.I passed on the table too, LHO transfered with 2♦, and NT bidder now bids 2♥. Part 2: What now?
whereagles
Well, 3♦ now. 3NT might be on, but there's no way to check whether pard has the right cards. I could take a flyer, but I don't think that's the percentage bid.
