LHO the overcalls 1♦, partner doubles, RHO bids 2♦, you bid 2♥, LHO pushes to 3♦ and partner doubles. Pass to you. p p p 1♣1♦dble2♦2♥3♦dble p ? Any comments about the bidding so far? What do you think the double should mean? What would you bid next?
kenrexford
Although partnership agreement is key, I'd expect 4324 and about 11 HCP's. A plausible example might be Kxxx-Axx-xx-Axxx. Probably primed, unless primes justify 11-count openings in second seat. As to what to do, I dislike my options and forced guess. But, this problem was in part necessitated by my need to open this mess in fourth seat. I think I'll try for +140 rather than +300, but passing might be the sole option for a plus score. mike777
The first x promised 44 in the majors. Responder cannot be 43 in the majors. The second x is for penalty, partner heard you open 1club in 4th seat and make a free bid of 2H. You got what you promised and 2 small trumps(D). kenrexford
Promises, promises. I suppose I am too fond of Mr. Moyse's ideas and accordingly sometimes view 4-3 in the majors, with relative shortness in diamonds, as 4-4, unless the later auction dictates otherwise. ;-)
whereagles
hum.. this auction is a good reason why I should have bid 2♠ the round before, since I could bid 3♥ now. As it is, I gotta guess something, and I guess 3♥.

If so, the dble would be not too much useful. As the opener with 4-4 majors, I would have dbled over 2D. And I agree that 2S is better than 2H: S were better and you could bid H later if necessary. Flame
The first double usually shows 4-4 majors. The second double show max hand for passed hand and pretty balanced, suggest leting them play.
