csdenmark
I use this prealert - but right nobody seems interested! That's their own problem if they dont want to be informed. !C!D!H!S!C!D!H!S!C!D!H!S!C!D!H!S!C!D!H!S!C!D!H!S!C!D!H!S!C!D!H!S!C!D!H!S Claus Sønderkøge. I live in countryside – Island of Mors – near the Northsea. ALERT! We play PRECISION CLUB. 1!C=16+ else limit openings – most 11-15. Convention card(cc) is up and you will have more info here: http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/intro.msnw – Welcome and good luck!
Resaz0
I used to post a convention card on BBO tournements in the past, but i stopped now because I forget it and because nobody seems interested. I have been playing on other internet sites and found there that, when a convention card is posted, an explanation box appears near any bid, even if the bid is not alerted. The explanation was not always accurate but the errors of the software were very easy to recognise. This would be a great help for example with "Polish Club" and "Precision" and many other system that I do not know. And the job of directors would be easier. Maybe uday one of these days will think to this.
Free
I've tried to fill in our CC, but it seems it's too focussed on normal systems that you can't fill it in the way I want it. To give a simple example: 2NT opening. The HCP range isn't set, because we use an opening which promisses 55+ C-D which is either pre-emptive OR FG. And a lot of other stuff. I used to play at Zone.com, and there the explanation came on the screen. It was a lot easier to fill in the CC, because it's all textfields. bearmum
I totally agree ---- and have written to BBO several times (without success - or even acknowlegement ) on subject of what I consider inadequate software -- MAYBE the site does not support better software - I can't say BUT surely a link to ACBL CC site could be arranged ----- THERE you can fill out ACBL card with whatever u want ::o BBO CC's do NOT allow you to fill in EXACT point ranged for some bids B) :-[ I've tried to fill in our CC, but it seems it's too focussed on normal systems that you can't fill it in the way I want it. csdenmark
I have now changed so it is possible to download a package with approx. 15 convention cards for the systems uploaded to bridgeFILES. As my download files now have been uploaded to my ISP, membership is no longer needed for download - unless you want to be informed about updates of course. You download to root folder C: It is a selfextracting file. Convention cards in BBO-format only Download of bridgeFILES
bearmum
Thanks Cs -- BUT I'm not a computer person a,d good as your instructions are I'm afraid they are 'greek' to me -- guess I will just have to soldier on with BBO CC 's :'(
keylime
I think it should be mandatory for CC's to be used in tourneys if the event of of a certain nature. For Abalucy's for example, I provide a filled CC, from top to bottom, and always tell the opponents that I have an ACBL CC that they can view if desired. Many have taken me up on that, and are thankful that I provide a medium for active ethics and full disclosure. In terms of the CC, I like it - so much better than most. Just need a little more buffering room for me to type in the goodies instead of my generic statement "HCPs are merely a guideline, players have latitude to devaite from published norms as play/bid warrants".... DrTodd13
I almost always post CCs when I play in tournaments. I tryto set a good example and get others to do the same. TheBBO convention card window has its faults, even for "standard"systems but it is better than nothing. I am probably one of thefew that has problems with it...maybe that is because I use itmore than others or because I play weird system or have lotsof agreements that won't fit in the space provided. Maybe, inthe future there can be two modes...a basic mode (resemblingwhat we have now) and an advanced mode that enables amore thorough description of the system. mishovnbg
Hi all! I normally play with CC posted and pre-alert opps about. Its true BBO convention card dont have something like additional sheet to describe agreed sequences. Also in training room "Partnership bidding" no opponents intervention available to customise. I please many time both Uday and Fred, but without sucsess :'(. From all I read about Fred and his posts in BBO forum, he dont like "science" systems and will not do anything about these problems, so only way to menage them is to make your own european BBO, hope will be free too B). MishoI don't think Fred's personal feelings about complex systems has anything to do with not updating the CC software. I think it is purely a matter of he and Uday needing to budget their time and set priorities on what improvements they make to BBO. It seems to me they have put a huge amount of work into Tournaments. They have also had to make programming changes to get the server to handle the much larger number of members online (especially during the live broadcasts). I suspect the latter item (the much larger number of members online at any one time), will be consuming much of their time over the next while. I'm sure they don't want BBO breaking down or becoming unstable just as it is reaching new levels of success.
Free
The only thing I think is wrong in the cc software is the several textfields per bid, pull down menu's,... If you use one big textfield for each bid, everybody can fill in the cc like it should. And if that's possible, people will start using it more imo.
