Free
In the list of penalties from the European Championships, there are 2 countries which got a -0.5VP penalty for 'miscounting'. Does anybody know what they miscounted, or what it means exactly?
bid_em_up
Not sure, but if I had to bet, it is for beginning an auction/play of a hand when not holding 13 cards. However, thats just a guess.
Free
Yes, it seems you're right. Tnx ;)
hrothgar
rec.gmes.bridge suggested that this penalty was related to mechanical scoring errors. (Reporting a contract that made 4 tricks as making 3, that sort of thing)
barmar
I suppose it might be a translation problem, but I would call that "misscoring", not "miscounting". Failing to count cards at the beginning sounds more plausible, and someone in the r.g.b thread mentioned it as a possibility (but maybe he read it here first -- it always gets confusing when people post the same question in both places). paulg
3. Fouled boards (twice duplicated) [...] 3.3 Penalty for miscounting If any player looks at his cards before counting and has 14 or more cards theboard is "fouled". The offending side will be penalized ½ VP for each occasion
