DrTodd13
The time period for the round-robin phase of the (BBO league) is going to expire at the end of the month. At this point, some teams have played up to 10 matches while other teams have only played 3 matches. So, it seems clear that the round robin is not going to be totally finished at the end of the month and this begs the question of how you can cope with this fairly. The most straightforward approach is that you do nothing special and everybody gets all the VPs that they've earned in all matches played but this approach has the potential for abuse. In the final weeks, a team that has not played all of its matches may choose to play against the team that they would like to win and deprive other teams in contention the ability to play them and therefore the ability to accumulate VPs. Another possibility is that when they play the match against the team they like that they throw the match. I'm not sure what you can do about people throwing matches but is there something to be done in the first case? Should we just keep eliminating teams who have played the fewest number of matches until what you end up with is a set of teams which have played a complete round robin against each other? I'm not sure if that works. I know that my team has been aggresively trying to schedule all of our matches and we shouldn't be eliminated just because our opponents have been non-responsive? I think in this whole tournament, only one captain has contacted me first. The other 7 times I've had to contact them first. Just a rant as to why people would enter this tournament and be so lackidasical about scheduling matches.
inquiry
I think it is not as dire as it seems. Our team played at least two more matches than show in the table i believe. That is, what is there is what was there when rychoo went on vacation. I suspect others may have played matches that are not reflected. For what it is worth, although this is called BBO Leugue, this is not run by BBO..so complaints should be filed with rychoo. Of course, just expression general frustration here is fine. After watching the junior world championship, and the spingolds, we need a good team competition on BBO with knock outs and the like. :-)
DrTodd13
Some issues regarding teams dropping out have been discussed on the BBO league forums but the participation rate in that forum is almost dead so I thought I'd get people's ideas here. To me, a team that doesn't complete the RR is very much like a team that drops out mid-way through. I know that the results are slow to get updated on the BBO league pages because rychoo is on vacation. In fact, we have 3 matches that haven't showed up yet. I really dislike nationalism so I wouldn't want to do it based on the concept of a country but it would be nice if there were a yearly knockout tourney where everyone in your sub-bracket was on the same continent...with perhaps dividing asia up into 2 parts. The idea being that scheduling across time zones is a pain in the butt and you really want more of an international flavor. BBO leagues is too lopsidedly Polish. So, make it truly international and do away with most of the timezone problems until the final few matches. Personally, I'd like to see this added as a feature to BBO, you could see team affiliations and be notified when other teams were available to play. Yeah my team was forced to drop one of its members (my most regular partner, elnorte) sincea. all the other teams are in foreign countriesb. we can only schedule matches against those teams on the weekend (do to things like jobs and timezones conflicting)c. elnorte can only play weekdays...
