The opp are bidding 2nt yes not partner?

the hog
3H forcing, and looking for 6H at MPs and 6C at Imps. Strong argument for playing 4C as forcing and setting the suit and asking for cues rather than being pre emptive.
Echognome
3H forcing, and looking for 6H at MPs and 6C at Imps. Strong argument for playing 4C as forcing and setting the suit and asking for cues rather than being pre emptive. Interesting. I wondered this. Is it better to play 4♣ and 4♦ as preemptive or slam tries? The 2NT bids just haven't come up enough for us for me to judge. Maybe I should generate a bunch and see. Anyone have experience and have a good scheme for it? Currently we have: 2NT - ? 3C/3D - To Play3H/3S - Natural and forcing3N - To play4x - To Play4NT - Pick your minor at the 5 level5C/5D - To play
whereagles
Well.. over a weak 2NT 55 minors, I've played something like this for a long time 2NT ..?3/4/5m = pree3♥ = relay (you lose the heart suit, but that's life)3♠ = nat F1, 6+ cards3NT/4M = to play Follow-ups after relay: 2NT 3♥3♠ = min (~5-8). Now 4m from responder is sign-off and 4M slam try in linked minor.3NT = max (~8-10) GF. Now 4m sets trumps.4m = 6-5, max GF. Now 4M sets trumps. pclayton
I think we need a very specific hand to make 6♣, and an even more specific hand to make 6♥. As good as this mitt is, don't I need something along the lines of: xx, x, AK(or Q)xxx, xxxxx or: Ax, x, Kxxxx, xxxxx? Mundane hands such as: Qx, x, Kxxxx, xxxxx give us zero play for 6. At MP's I'll try 3♥, although I'm not hopeful about anything higher.
pclayton
And here's my structure over 2N: x of any minor or 4 major - to play 3♥ - relays to 3♠ then: --->4♣/4♦ - invites to game--->4♥/4♠/5♣/5♦ - mild invite to slam. 2N bidder proceeds with 2 cover cards 3♠ - relays to 3N then: ----> 4♣/4♦ - RKCB----> 4♥/4♠/5♣/5♦ - Strong invite to slam. Opener proceeds unless he holds absolute drek. Seems the subject hand fits into the 'mild' slam invite category.
