BBO lin files to HTML conversion

I am putting together some new stuff for the USBF web site for the upcoming team trials. I have written a Python program which creates HTML files from the BBO vugraphs in PBN format (and my son Paul Bethe has written a program which takes the raw lin files and makes PBN files).

I would love some feedback on the HTML format. Here are some "scorecards" from the recent Chicago Natls and from Verona:

http://www.kittycooper.com/Bridge/modules....=Bridge_Matches

Click on any board number or contract to see what happened with the open and closed rooms side by side

The final version will include bracket sheets where you can click a segment's score to get to the scorecard and team pages which you can get to by clicking on the team names. The team pages will have team pictures, rosters, bios and links to convention cards or system summaries (right Jan?)

Yes, that's right, at least to the extent that the players cooperate by providing convention cards and snippets of biographical information :)

Which I guess is another thing I could ask the BBO forum members for - if you have any good stories (non-bridge cheerfully accepted) about any of the USBC participants (see http://www.usbf.org/entriesusbc2006.pdf for a list of participants), please forward it to me so I can include it on the "team pages" I'll be working on (with all the help I can get) for the next three weeks.

I think the score sheet and hand detail pages are very nice -- functional and esthetically pleasing.

It would be nice if the front page, with the links to all the matches, were a bit more organized than just a list of links. Something like:

2006 Spingold

 Final (Weed-NPC vs Nickell)

  1st Quarter

  2nd Quarter

  3rd Quarter

 Semi-Final (Nickell vs Jacobs)

  1st Quarter

  2nd Quarter

  3rd Quarter

  4th Quarter

 Semi-Final (Weed-NPC vs Hollman)

  1st Quarter

  2nd Quarter

  3rd Quarter

  4th Quarter

OK the PBN files are now posted (there link to each one from the bottom of the corresponding scorecard), as well as the final quarter of the spingold. Although you can use BBO to view the PBN files it seems to get the board numbers wrong, and thus vulnerabilities wrong, if the match does not start on board 1.

No directory structure because it is just a collection of test files - the USBF site will let you click to these "scorecards" from the bracket score tables

One can also use the PBN files for GIB, Jack

and other programms.

With kind regards

Wow! I'm still pretty new to this but this seems new and exciting. This business of converting .lin to .pbn files is something I've been looking for for some time. Now, using Jack for example, I can load these hands and play them myself. Has there always been such a capability before (.lin to .pbn) and I just missed it? If not, will there eventually be a stand-alone utility I can run locally to convert any .lin to .pbn?

The original pbn to lin converter that I used was very good but not available as source, so we could not make the additions needed for the HTML presentation:

http://www.ebridgenz.com/download.html

So we wrote our own lin to pbn converter specific to vugraph matches which handles missing boards, results only cases from closed room, etc. I will ask Paul if it is freeware/shareware so I can publish it for download

Richard Pavlicek also has a Bridge File convertor that will convert between various bridge formats including LIN to PBN

Richard's converter is a very rigorous programme and does a full error check. I use it regularly for performing the final checks of my files for the historic Bermuda Bowl matches.

Small downside is that it operates inside a DOS window - so a little DOS knowledge is useful.
