What would you bid? Why are we thinking about slam here? We have a maximum of 8 controls (maybe 9 given a stiff K♠), but w/ only 4 trumps to take care of a weak ♠ suit, slam seems mighty optimistic. Give pard: XAKQXKQXXAQXX and even 5♦ doesn't seem that rosy on a trump lead and continuation. I would just settle for 5♦ and hope it makes. jtfanclub
Give pard: XAKQXKQXXAQXX and even 5♦ doesn't seem that rosy on a trump lead and continuation. That looks automnatic for 5♦ to me, and slightly over 50% for 6♦ if you bid it (though you'll down more than 1 if it fails). 2 spade ruffs, 3 hearts, 5 diamonds, 1 club in 5♦, finesse the club for the 12th trick in 6. What am I missing?

What am I missing? Whoops, I guess I gave pard a too ideal hand. How about this one? In any case, I think that slam is too optimistic IMO. whereagles
I think I know enough and would bid 6♦ now. Aggressive, but sinceI don't have the means to find out where the remaining high cards are, I'll just take what I think is the percentage action. AtulThis in fact was the hand that Partner had with ♦ 10 too.♦ were 2-2 .♠ were 3-3 :P My Partner argued that he was unlikely to have ♠ ace and so we had 8 out of remaining 9 controls and I should have bid slam.I think an optimist here would bid slam a pessimist wouldnt. :D My reason for not bidding slam here was that my team mates were a pair of school boys being coached by me and we were playing against the defending champions .The oponents on the other table were playing a primitive version of precision and I thought the contract on that table would be some number of ♠; 4 or may be even 5.It was in fact 4♠ but then ♠ were 3-3 .............
