(I'm expecting bad breaks in ♦ and ♥) The only reason that I'd consider any other bid is if I think that LHO is suicidal. barmar Posted July 21, 2006 Report Share Posted July 21, 2006 3♥. It's MP, so a major is preferable. I'd rather be in an 8-9 card fit than a possible 7 card fit. I won't bid any higher because almost all my values are in the opponent's suits. And I'm not bidding 3NT becaue even though I have both his suits stopped, I doubt I'll be able to run our tricks before he's able to establish one of them; there's a good chance the opponents have a 9-card fit in one of the blacks (♣, I'm guessing, because North could have bid 3♠ with four of them). (3NT is silly imo) I passed at the table, figuring if pard has 5+ quality diamonds as a PH then his hearts are not too good and 3♦ may actually be better here.
