Some interesting hands

Recommended Posts

These hands are pickup from a friendly table. Suppose you're sitting South. Your opps are old friends and it's your first time playing with your PD. You've agreed to play 2/1 with common tools. There're 20 kibitizers around table. Here comes your hard time:))

1. Pass, what have I got to say?

2. Spade

3. Pass, forcing. Very close between this and double, but if I double partner will (correctly) pass holding many hands where slam is cold, e.g. - Qxx Axxx A10xxxx, in the belief I don't have real clubs and have a fourth spade and I'm only getting somewhere between 500 and 1100 against my vul slam. At matchpoints I don't think this would be close at all: pass is screamingly obvious.

1. Pass (unanimous?) No fit, not much extra, oh well...

2. J. 3NT probably shows the stopper however with A in dummy opposite Qxx or so in hand they might hope for 12 tricks with running or a finesse and step up the Ace on the lead.

3. Double.

3S is a perfect spot. North seems won't bid anymore without encouraging. If South double, would you take it as optional?[/hv]

1. I would personally take double as take-out, but a much stronger hand. Anyway there seems little upside in bidding 3S. 3C will make 9 tricks for -110. 3S will make 7 tricks for -100 if they don't double, which to be fair they probably won't. This is IMPs, that is a flat board.

3. Partner has about the worst possible hand for a 6C bid, and in a long match, it's not unreasonable to be in slam, depending a bit on how they play their weak jumps. Single dummy slam is on the diamond finesse, and 5S is not going that many off. Say it goes for 800 when slam is making and 500 when slam isn't making, as here (assuming a trump lead). Then by bidding slam you either gain 11 imps or lose 12 making it about 50:50 - but sometimes it will only go for 500/800, and sometimes they won't lead the ace of spades, being worried about a void in dummy and you will make anyway.

I was voting the same thing as Roland and Gerben b4 I saw the hands.

No.1, pd has 6(!) cards of and 9 hcp, I would rebid 3S with this holding. Opener, with 2 spades, and close to minimum opening, pass is clear-cut.

No. 2, yes, that is why we voted for SJ lead.

No. 3, Without a clear fit, dbl is clear to me.

1) Double ... leave it up to p... but look like we are strong enough to punish or bid again

2) J.. Hope for the best..:)

3)Double... Should go home with a very good score..

1) Pass.I have nothing more than what I bid.

2)Small I always lead aggressively against freely bid slams .Especially if I know the opponents which is the case here.

3)Dbl: Tell P about my honors.
