Winstonm
I guess now I don't feel so badly about losing to you guys 3 times already this year - if Martel/Stansby can't handle you, what makes me think I can? Winston
pclayton
http://web2.acbl.org/nabcbulletins/2006summer//db3.pdf Well, we all knew it wasn't a matter of 'if', it as a matter of 'when.
fred
Justin's team played my team in the 64-board semi-final match. I played 32 of these boards against Justin and his dad. We lost in no small part due to Justin's great play. In my view he was the single outstanding player in this match (which included several household names like Hamman, Passell, and Wold). At least I get to say "I told you so" - I've been predicting for years that Justin was destined to become a superstar ;) Congratulations friend! Expect you will be doing a lot more winning in the years to come. Fred GitelmanBridge Base Inc.www.bridgebase.com

Winstonm
Not only congrats, but I would like to add that playing against Justin and Hemant is a pleasant experience, even as they murder you. Justin is cordial, polite, and congratulates you on good plays - what more can you ask?

Guest Jlall
Thanks guys, it feels great to win one. I was lucky to have great teammates and a great partner in this one. We also had a lot of luck especially against Fred's team. Several close slams they bid went down. Thanks for all the nice compliments. The team trials are open trials so anyone can play.I do not think winning the Grand Nat gets you any byes but it will help with the seeding points.I am sure if you PM JanM she can give you all the details. cherdano
And now the Lall's have made it non-seeded to the round of 16 in Spingold, beating the Demuy-Wolperts and team Robinson, wow! Father Lall with Ira Choroush, son Lall in the BBO-experienced partnership with David Grainger. Go Lalls Go!

joshs
Yes Congrats Justin on the GNT win, and his team is still alive in the Spingold!Wow, I remember playing with Justin on OKB when he was around 11 or 12 after Karen Manfield said to me, "hey you need to check out this kid" and we both played with him occasionally (I didn't realize he had someone much better than us to play with at home- so I thought we were helping him out....). He was already a solid flight B player at that young age. Its great to see him kicking the big boys asses now.
Winstonm
Hey, Justin, you really need to come back to the forums because I can tell you how you should have bid that hand.
pclayton
I had the absolute pleasure to kib JL in the final segment of the R16 against the Hu team that won the Vanderbilt (I think). This is a great reason to play the fast pairs; you are done at about 7:30 and get about 4 hours to kib the Spingold. An interesting decision JL had: ♠void, ♥AKTxx, ♦Axxx, ♣AKT9...RHO opens a multi 2♦ and you double (prelude to a strong hand I believe). Your pard tries 3♠ and you backpedal with 3N (since it looks as if RHO has the heart suit). Now pard bids 4♥. Your call?

pagehoutex
Miles and miles of smiles and hearty congratulations to Justin and Helmut Lall on their GNT win. As a casual acquaintance who first met Justin at a bridge tournament in my city when he was 10 and already a very worthy opponent, I have watched his progress through the years since then and enjoyed my occasional chats with his mother, Jan, about his competition results. In addition I not too long ago suffered the agonies of defeat in a swiss team match against him at a local Regional (last year or the year before) so I saw for myself how superbly the young adult plays the game. Needless to say, I am bursting with pride in his latest achievement! I'll be eagerly awaiting the write-up in Bridge Bulletin about your GNT win, Justin, and wish you much success in the future. hrothgar
Also see you've branched into Journalism. Nice article in Bridge Plus about psyches. Geoff Don't have a subscription to the magazine. Could anyone post a brief summary (or at least a description of the themes discussed?) paulg
I expect it was similar to his blog entry on the subject. Bridge Plus is a magazine that is aimed at the club and social bridge players. Although it contains some tournament reports, I believe its articles are selected when they will be interesting to a wide audience. Justin's writing is excellent in this regard and he joins an impressive list of contributors. Paul
GeeGee
I don't have the magazine to hand, but from what I can recall, it is as Paul says. The article is very similar, if not word-for-word the same, as Justin's blog. Geoff
