luke warm
My secret to playing well with Robyn when in Slovakia was to smile very sweetly at her and make some sort of joke about what a stupid game bridge was. She now says that she really enjoys playing with me. I guess that's progress B) You never smiled sweetly at me :P I have a reply to his, but it is somewhat politically incorrect... speak, speak... political correctness is a tired concept anyway
awm
The promise of a beer after the session always seems to make partner play well. This is why I always add points to my hand if I have the ♦7 (beer card) and partner will be declaring, since I expect a magnificent effort from partner in attempting to score the beer! Unfortunately the requisite mental energy sometimes detracts from partner's play on non-beer hands, and I don't have the money (nor do many of my partners have the alcohol tolerance) for me to offer a beer for every contract partner plays or defends well.
