yet another hand I found hard

Recommended Posts

I bid 3H here as I could not bid 3NT on my own (I think)

what does 3H show?

does the x of 3H make my pards bid easier

was I totally dumb and should I have passed 3D

if I had hearts covered would I not just bid 3NT not 3H?

help needed here TY

SAYC no real agreements

1. Asks for a heart stopper. If you had one yourself, you would bid 3NT. That's also a reply to your 4th question.

2. Yes, because it gives him two extra steps: pass and redouble. Some play that 3NT after a double shows a double stopper.

3. I would have passed 3. It's invitational as I play it; don't know about sayc though. A game forcing hand with no clear direction must go through 4th suit first.

1) 3H is 4th suit, i.e. it ask for further description,

e.g. stopper in heart

2) no, he has a double stopper in heart, ... the X of 3H

is not really to recommend

Does West really want a heart lead?

3) Standard meaning for 3D is, that it is invitational,

i.e. 3D is an underbid

North should bid 2H, holding 16 HCP

(you can downgrade if you like) and a fit,

slam is an option, in case the opener is better

than min.

As it happens, single dummy, 6C / 6D have a

fair chance to succeed, although the small is less

than 50%, if opener is stronger, the percentage

will be higher.

With kind regards

Marlowe

I think that in sayc 3 is forcing.

But even if it were non-forcing I'd try for 3NT (via 3 or some other gadget) because the hand has a great diamond holding and quick tricks on the side. Mandatory at imps, I'd say

Where do you get such an idea about 3? Of course 3 is invitational in SAYC.

Well, I seem to recall having read that in the ACBL sayc pamphlet.

Memory can be failing me, though. It was long ago and I skimmed through it at lightning speed B)
