What exactly is appealing about the J? It seems like this will often cause partner to go wrong when holding the A, with the only compensation being that declarer may misguess if holding the A, K, and T between the two hands. Even if this latter situation is the case, declarer can often set up the clubs or ruff a diamond and avoid any guess in the diamond suit entirely.

I'll stick with the routine Q lead thanks.

What mikeh said.

We have the death club holding and have to be aggressive. The most aggressive red suit lead is a diamond. leading the DJ instead of the systemic DQ would only work if the goal is to deceive declarer about the layout of the diamond suit: but we aren't trying to do that, we are trying to set up 4 tricks before he has 10 and partner needs to be in on the joke in order to do that successfully.

I would lead the DQ too, but note we are playing matchpoints so we don't know our trick target is 4.

Well, you tend to get a good board for beating game at matchpoints as well.

But to rephrase: we still have a dreadful club holding, and at matchpoints our target is as many tricks as possible, so we still need to be aggressive.

I would lead the Q as well, but the point I was making, maybe poorly, was the deceptive J lead has more to commend it at matchpoints, for instance, it might be a +1 hand dependant on the diamond guess for a second overtrick, a big result at MPs but of little value at IMPs.
