6-1-0-6 When and what to bid?

Recommended Posts

In third hand, imp match, red vs red, you are dealt:

[hv=d=n&v=b&s=saj8653h9dcj98765]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] P

It goes pass, pass to you. First question: Do you open this as any sort of pre-empt?

Rex and I prefer stronger suits vulnerable, so he passed to start.

Assuming you pass, 4th hand opponent opens 1.

Do you act now, and if so, what do you bid?

:rolleyes: :blink: :rolleyes:

Red vs Red in 3rd seat? While I am tempted to open 3S (definitely if I was white) I will pass and see how the auction proceeds. 1 QT at the most and only playing strength bodes well for the pre-empt, but why let them in on the secret? Once you have passed (and with freaks like this, bidding three or four times as a passed hand really helps pard to know what to do) you can do what seems appropriate. Once you preempt and it fails, I personally don't want to then introduce my 2nd suit at the 4 or 5 level without giving pard a say.

The nice thing about 2s is it may get a 3 card raise out of partner which may help us decide the proper level for this hand. 3s opening will have everyone guessing.

Nice hand to use FTL, fight the law on.

13-1-?=tricks we can take

13=total tricks, given

1=estimated combined 2 shortest suits

?=estimate of working hcp, example 19-21=zero....16-18=minus one, etc......

Let's assume for better or worse that you did pass on your first bid. What do you bid over the 1 Diamond opening?

For worse. I will bid 1 and keep bidding clubs until I am declarer. Then I play slowly until partner leaves for a bathroom break, so he never gets to see my hand.

(Later)

"Sorry partner, there were no printouts of the hand records left."

LOL I have used that one on Rex---he is wise to it now! :) B) :P

:P I had to imagine passing anyway. I tried this, lots of things happened in my head and my fingers typed 1, what can I say? Perhaps one shouldn't be asked what to do after making a pass like that.

2 Diamonds = Weak 6 card suit in an unspecified major.

If I get to play it in 2 spades great,

If opponents compete in hearts or diamonds, I'll make an exception and break my vow of silence to bid clubs. My partnerships allow this under exceptional circumstances so partner will know exactly what I have.

Not exactly safe but I'm not a conservative bidder in style :lol:

Cheers,

Theo
