How to show fit?

How would you bid these hands? 2 overcall is natural, opps pass further. You can use any system you like (1 is natural).

I'm not sure how to bid this hand, so all opinions are welcome.

I'm not sure whether 2 are forsing...

How do you play it?

The decision whether to treat 2 as forcing or non-forcing is a matter of partnership agreement. Most pairs playing standard methods play that new suits are forcing. Some players prefer to use Negative Free Bids and treat 2 as natural, constructive, and non-forcing.

I'd be surprised if anyone advocating bidding 2 would do so if they believed the bid to be non-forcing.

yes, 2 forcing

With negative freebids I suppose DBL followed by 2 or 3 is forcing. But not sure if you want to bid ... DBL-3C-3S

3 = fit jump in competition. Five , fit for hearts, game force (since force to 4 without a fit anyway.

Likely continuation

1-(2)-3-(opponents now nice and quiet, so only NS bidding shown)

4-4

Where 4 = club control, NOT SERIOUS SLAM AMBITION

4 = last train to clarksville, interest in slam despite the lack of serious 3NT

South;s hand which while minimum turns to gold when partner still shows slam interest after this.

There are two normal ways to bid this depending on personal preference:

1H (2D) 2S (P)

3S (P) {couple of rounds of cue-bidding in a manner of your choice}

4S P

or, if you like to show a fit at once

1H (2D) 3D (P)

4H all pass

Note in passing that 6H is a terrible contract.

6S is slightly better, but still don't particularly want to be in it. They both seem to need the ace of spades doubleton, unless I'm missing something about the play.

Very interesting hands..

On the first hand 2(forcing) then show support ..4/5 level based on partner's rebid.. B)

On the second hand I would jump cue 4 to show support and void. :D

Both hands are slamish ..so whatever you bid make sure it screams slam interest..:)

All a matter of agreements.

How would you bid if 2 are not forsing?

(that was my case, I'm sorry I haven't written it)

either double or 3.. i'd double if the understanding was that subsequent bids are game forcing, otherwise i'd bid 3 (given a non-forcing 2)

An interesting problem with a number of answers - but which is best?

I believe there are at least 3 bids available: 2S, 3D, 4C.

As long as 2S is forcing, this shows where you live and you can catch up later on strength with a 4C or 4D cue bid, IMO.

3D shows limit raise of better in hearts, but cannot ever show such good spades.

4C for some would work, as they do this with good side suits, but this isn't my style.

I would bid a forcing 2S and over 3S bid 4C, a non-serious cue bid.

in uncontestet bidding, I would bid my spades and show my fit later.

In this hand and playing NFB, I will give up on spades and look for Heart with a 4 Club splinter. Bidding will proceed with 4 Diamond, 4 NT and we reach 6 Heart.
