hrothgar
This one is really tricky... Rock and Roll is constantly changing and evolving. Its very difficult to pick a greatest song in a genre that streaches from Johnny B Goode to Free Bird and from Hendrix to the Clash.... Its also a pisser trying to determine what is (and isn't) Rock and Roll. I know that its just personal bias, but I'm willing to consider styles of music that I like such as Punk and Ska as "Rock" while dismissing other styles like Rap and Hip Hop. In any case, here are 5 of my all time favorites: 1. London Calling - The Clash2. Sweet Child o' Mine - Guns and Roses3. Sunday, Bloody Sunday - U24. What's Mine is Yours - Sleater Kinney5. Life's been Good to Me So Far - Joe Walsh If I had to pick a single "greatest" song, it would be Ohio by CSN+Y
whereagles
My choice would be 'Starless', from King Crimson's album Red. 'Stairway to heaven' would definitely be in the top ten if you interview a million people from the 70's :)
Sigi_BC84
"Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, and "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits.
Al_U_Card
Rock AND Roll? Toss up between "Hound Dog" by Elvis and "Rock around the clock" by Bill Haley and the Comets. Rock is an entirely different world. "Hash Pipe" by Weezer and "Like she said" by Eve 6 are potential classics for head shaking, toe tapping, ultra-high volume ROCK. I agree with this; just one point to add (very few are aware of it). It was actually Bill Haley and His Comets. Roland

Winstonm
Such a tough question as in my mind pure rock and roll began with Buddy Holly and ended with The Rolling Stones - after that it was pretty much subcultures of rock and roll. Greatest Ever? Satisfaction, The Rolling Stones. Favorite? Chantilly Lace
